More and more police agencies are going to start doing this. Personally I REALLY like the idea and here's why.

1- They have to tell you they're recording, so more people will STFU
2 - It puts people on a more even playing field, i.e. the judge always rules in the cops favor
3 - Video trumps words

FYI - My guess is because storage is damn expensive most of this stuff will be stored for 30 day and then flushed.

It's another step in the direction of total surveillance society in my opinion. The problem they created is cops are rotten, reaction video cameras on every cop, solution more surveillance on the people...

I believe a judge recently ruled in favor of the cop even when the vid evidence showed otherwise.
Indiana Supreme Court Declares An Officer's Testimony Is More Reliable Than Video Evidence (https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20140405/17142626817/indiana-supreme-court-declares-officers-testimony-is-more-reliable-than-video-evidence.shtml)

The cop in N.M. killed two guys and both times he either turned off the cam or it somehow mysteriously malfunctioned.

The only people that will possibly stfu, will be the cops.

Have said before I monitor the cops, and there have been calls/stops that they have dispatch log camera problems and resets many times. Funny thing, a bunch are when they go to locations/trouble areas or repeat call locations!

Now being honorable and all they wouldn't jimmy their recorders? Would they? (Sarc)

Eyewitness testimony v. a body camera:

Fully-watch the news report, then the raw footage from the bodycam.

Video camera's on the cops, helps the cops. They get their ass covered. Our culture if it's "on video" it's gold.

This is not for your protection or safety. It's by design. Video footage speaks truth to the people. So therefore, video the cops, people will believe it.

Getting rid of cops altogether would get rid of 100% of abuse, and its cheaper than a camera... Anyhow see that statistic as a marketing tool for camera manufacturers, even if it is correct which is doubtful, it won't take long until cops will learn how to bypass the cameras, and since there is no camera evidence they go clear of any wrongdoing, the victims will be in an even weaker position...

Only problem is.......body cameras usually get scared when they hear gunshot and turn themselves off....SAY WHAT?

The footage is stored on flash-based memory. "Technical difficulties" will make the footage disappear when it is incriminating.
