After his tractor accident recently which resulted in very serious injury and a heart attack I figured he was going to be passing soon. Godspeed Jim Traficant.

I've never understood the guy. Was a hero railroaded with fake charges, like Edgar Steele, or, was he a crook who also told important truths, Rod Blagojevich?

Exactly how do you manage to flip over a tractor while driving it into a pole barn?

Very strange.

I think someone needs to ask Ron Paul if it's possible to wade into a cesspool and not end up getting some shit on you.

If it were a 4 wheel drive and foot slips off the clutch ... those things will climb walls and flip backward. If it was a vintage one it wouldn't have a ROPS.

Very strange.

The story is he "ran over a steel blade (in the pole barn) which tipped the tractor over". It could have been some tractor implement which he drove the rear wheel onto and over went the tractor. If it was a tricycle arrangement front axle those tractors are not as stable as the wide (usually adjustable for crop row widths) front axles.

According to wikipedia he suffered a heart attack which resulted in driving the tractor into whatever flipped it.

The same way Vince Foster shot himself in the back of the head?

No doubt.

I've driven tractors up and down ditches a hundred times, driven them drunk/stoned. Never flipped one, never even had a close call.

You're kidding yourself if you think for a minute that tractors don't easily flip under the right circumstances. Plenty of deaths and injuries to substantiate this.

Any word on what model Traficant was using? - Never mind:

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/09/ex-congressman_jim_traficant_d.html

"Police think the tractor tipped after Traficant struck a piece of farm equipment with a bar installed on the front of his 1943 Ford tractor."

Probably one of these:

Then you must live where the laws of physics are not applicable. Once the center of gravity is outside the stability baseline that's it, whatever you've got is going over, period.

I want to know if the tractor rolled or pitched over. "Tip" is ambiguous. Again, never mind:

http://wkbn.com/2014/09/24/traficant-seriously-injured-in-tractor-accident/

"This caused the tractor to roll over backwards, pinning Traficant underneath."

So, it pitched.

Trust me, you haven't lived until you have power hopped a large 4 wheel drive tractor up a steep ravine.

Perhaps Mr. Traficant was texting while operating the tractor, bad idea.

What about the possibility of a worn clutch or even purposely-damaged clutch or throttle?

I did plenty of completely unsupervised stupid shit on our farm tractors and equipment INCLUDING trying to flip our largest one by pulling wheelies through a mud hole however I was a stupid teenager with a death wish. I have more sense now than to attempt the plainly foolhardy.

Same here, you have to do something really out of the ordinary to flip a tractor. But our city boys know all about it.

Criticizing Jews might be high on the list.

for sure if they get you to their doktors.

i don't understand the alleged BS that got him nailed for Money Laundering.

which came first, his honest speech about The Jews and Israel, or the alleged crimes ?

i wonder if i do comparable money laundering just transfering money from one Paypal account to another.

i have a feeling that his prison time was similar to that doled out to a political dissident.

i think God likes people that work hard and James worked hard. i think he will be 'recycled', if there is such a thing.

Another good podcast here; lots of clips of JT's highlights. Too bad I'm doing most of my learning about JT after he's gone. :-[ Some of his fans are questioning the tractor accident; but I would be more skeptical of the hospital "treatment" aftermath. Even then though, it seems his tractor injuries were quite serious, for a 73yo guy.
