Apparently these storm surges has happened there before, but probably it has been made worse by building a highway along the coast. Seems like they were even aware of the problem before they started the construction...

A private company would never be this stupid. But government, well it's not their money, so they don't have as strong an incentive to build things responsibly.

Looks like most of those cameras filming it were inside .gov buildings...

One building was a fire dept. I had to laugh, I've never seen fireman run so scared from water.
