I don't have any body armor but was thinking about getting it. I just saw this video encouraging it and thought I'd share.

Here's the vest shown in the video, but it's backordered currently:

IIIA is only good against pistol rounds. May be good to protect you from street thugs firing their "Glock Foddys," but against Police State thugs? No.

Wearing plates all the time is going to get really tiresome. Nor do they protect your face or groin.

I'd rather aim for defense-in-depth in a defensible position, or, best, avoid any situation where this would be necessary.

Don't they degrade after time? Not the steel plates, but the soft armor and the ceramic plates?

The Aramid or UHMWPE material of the armor definitely does. Not sure if it's relevant, though - if unused, kept cool, and out of UV light, they might still be effective for decades.

What do you guys think of these:

These all have an NIJ IIIA rating.

Looks great Shami. Very pricey though, $1000, but how much is your life worth if you think you need it. I really like the look of that brown farm jacket. IIIA rating as well, so it should be able to stop most all handgun rounds.

The downside about body armor is that it's heavy and restricts breathing. Sits on your chest, if you are not being too active, it's not an issue. But, if you have move quickly such as running you will notice it. Also, body armor allows no airflow, so I bet these coats, along with being a little heavy, would be quite warm. I would say as soon as you get indoors, you are going to want to take it off almost immediately.

Very cool idea. Thanks for sharing.

Counterfeit Body Armor/Vests Being Sold At Gun Shows

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has seized counterfeit body armor bearing the label of Point Blank Enterprises.

Point Blank Enterprises, Inc. received a customer complaint. The customer indicated that he purchased Point Blank body armor at a gun show in West Palm Beach, Fla. and thought the product was counterfeit. Point Blank Enterprises, Inc. determined the armor was fake and contacted FDLE.

Several suspects sold dangerous products to unsuspecting consumers raking in large profits for themselves," said FDLE Orlando Regional Operations Center Special Agent in Charge Danny Banks.

Agents also located counterfeit body armor labeled as PACA (Protective Apparel Corporation of America), ABA (American Body Armor), Gall's, First Choice, and OM Tactical.

Ballistic tests conducted on the bogus product determined it provided NO ballistic protection.

That BulletBlocker body armor looks like it'd give you some serious blunt trauma.

Why bother with body armor when you are going to show CLEAVAGE?
