Rush Limbaugh: President Obama Wants Ebola in U.S. as Revenge for Slavery

It’s glaringly obvious that conservatives really want some kind of Ebola panic (http://www.forwardprogressives.com/fox-news-elisabeth-hasselbeck-looks-like-fool-questioning-disease-specialist-ebola/)to break out here in the United States. While the conservative media is infamous for manufacturing fear out of essentially nothing, I’m not sure if their attempts to do so have ever been more blatant than they have been with this Ebola situation.
I’ve seen several medical experts appear on Fox News programming and calmly explain why Americans shouldn’t panic, only to have whomever it is that they’re speaking with on the network insist that people should still be terrified.
Which shouldn’t really be shocking. After all, when do conservatives ever put a whole lot of stock in believing in silly things like scientific facts?
Well, Rush Limbaugh took this fear-mongering to a place that only someone as absurd as he is could possibly take it (http://www.alan.com/2014/10/06/limbaugh-obama-letting-ebola-into-u-s-as-payback-for-slavery/)when he suggested that the Obama administration is using Ebola as some kind of revenge against the United States for slavery.
Because, you see, President Obama is half black. Just in case you weren’t aware.
Limbaugh first blamed liberals for the Ebola outbreak (somehow linking that to the fact that Liberia was created by freed slaves), then continued to support his nonsense by saying, “And if it hadn’t been for that they probably wouldn’t have Ebola. So there are some people who think we kind of deserve a little bit of this.”
“The danger we have now is that we elected people in positions of power and authority who think this or think like this in terms of this country being responsible, this country being to blame for things and it’s that kind of thinking that leads to opposition to shutting down airports from various countries,” Limbaugh continued.
He then concluded by saying, “It leads to opposition to keeping these people out of the country: ‘How dare we? We can’t turn our back on them! They exist because of us. We can’t turn them away!’”
There’s so much stupid in what he said that it’s hard to even know where to begin.
First, I’m not exactly sure what liberals have to do with a country that was established in the mid-1800′s. And what do the circumstances that led to the nation’s creation have to do with Ebola - a virus that wasn’t discovered until 1976? Literally none of that made any sense whatsoever.
Then, of course, he tried to tie in that bizarre rambling with the decision by “elected people in positions of power” (I think we all know who he means by that) to not seal off our borders from people who are flying in from West Africa. Saying that our decision not to block all people flying in from impacted areas of Africa is somehow linked to “guilt” we have over slavery.
That doesn’t at all sound completely moronic. Not. At. All.
While I’m definitely in favor of some kind of tighter restrictions being put into place to at least screen people more thoroughly who are coming from these impacted regions, Limbaugh’s assertion that there’s some kind of ulterior motive behind all of this is absurd.
But being that it’s coming from Rush Limbaugh, I’m sure nobody reading this is really all that shocked by his absolute ignorance.
