As to "Your account has been submitted for moderation by an administrator and will be activated shortly.", wtf on that too? What's to "moderate" when a new registree hasn't & can't post anything? They may never return, if they can't hit the ground running!

New registrees often have a thread they're hot to reply to. "Tomorrow" or whenever JQP gets around to "approving", they've likely lost interest & moved on? Does JQP use a "gut feeling" test in approving, based on the choice of user name, proclaimed bday, and/or email addy?

If I were a wild-eyed CT-ist, I'd say it seems that with the innane/irrelevant "barriers to entry" to GSUS, someone or entity wishes for the forum not to grow, only shrink through attrition. :(

Spammers can & are dealt with quickly... if that's the reason for the registration hoops... vBulletin also allows a setting where noobs can't post active links until they have (x) posts, combined with an (x) posts per 24 hours limit (which would be good for one of our recent re-registrees! Idonno Pat, On a forum I mod it got overwhelming on the spammer front. Until we implemented a verified email and someone to check if people were real I was banning 100+ a day. Completely out of hand.

However, I am still waiting for the activation email. At this point if I saw something I wanted to respond to I would just say fuck them since it is probably a topic several pages down. 15.5 hours later... Here all I think we need is the verified email confirmation.

Yes, that was the first and only email. Wanted to make sure I could log on and things worked.

So now we know the process does work.

I do quick IP checks on all registrants, plus have questions to register. Hate to say it but if it ain't Canada, US, occasionally Oz, I do not accept. 99.99% of the time anyone else is a spammer. This is how I keep spamming down to a minimum. It is the only unpaid approach I have found that works.
