First don't panic and mash the brakes. Just slowly let off on the gas and coast to a stop.

you can see where there rim has dug into the asphalt, After the rim bites the car is basically on rails. Trying to power out only gets you there quicker. I think it's a common reaction.

I was taught during a blowout, to accelerate the vehicle until you had control of it, then easy off the gas as the General said. Hope I don't experience one. Years ago with my Jeep I used to draft behind the big rigs, up close and personal, to save on gas. Once a tire on the rig blew out while I was right behind it drafting. It was an explosion actually, tire parts coated the jeep, got into the radiator, and it sounded like a cannon going off. The jeep was never the same after that. I also never drafted behind the big rigs again.
