I think this is quite true. Perhaps not so much in our cosy western society but in the real cut throat world, which is most everywhere else, the price for murder can be quite low. I think most of us are sleep walking through life. I know that I am and I hate this fact about me. I wish I could see all the things that I do not. I want to be fully aware but I know that I am not.

Case in point. I had a small dog. She was a chiuahau mix and very high strung. She would bark and growl and be a general nuisance. A little ankle biter. She was a bad-ass little bitch though and would chase cats and out run the big dogs all day long. She was very much 'in your face' but she had a certain 'way' about her. She would look and 'ask' to come on my lap sometimes but mostly she was a nuisance. I kind of like big dogs better. They seem more 'useful'. I really thought I hated that dog. We couldn't keep her out of the road no matter how we scolded her and such. One day her luck ran out and she was run over. This was the summer before last. I heard the screetch of tires out in the road and when Sarah called me out, I saw her laying there and at that moment 'the scales fell off my eyes' (isn't this how the bible terms it?) and I knew how much that little dog meant to me and how much I loved her. I picked her up and I cried because of her pain and how much I card for her. Took her to the vet but no luck. she suffered for about 12 hours. The vet told me that he could do nothing and probably she would die. About 40% chance she'd live. She was my son's dog and he was gone so I took a bunch of pain shot syringes with me and I kept shooting her up for the rest of the night. I followed the Docs' advice on how often to give her the shots. The whole thing shook me though. How can a person go about their life and be so blind to the truth?

I think we are all blind in myriad ways. I just wish there was some way to remove our blinders.
