I had the 4000 watt version that ran for a solid week when our block had a power outage. I used many more times over the course of 4 - 5 years and it always fired up quickly etc. I made the mistake of leaving it outside and that asshole Enzo pissed all over it and destroyed the electronics and it's not worth fixing at these prices.

As you know I have eight generators......all the from 350 to 5,000......three are for me and five for trading....they will be good only for as long and there is gas, but of course I'll be using most my solar power, have four 12v deep charge for that.....have other goodies that I made myself but will use it only when there is no gasoline and the batteries won't charge anymore...........

I got a 5000 watt from them years ago. My first experience with remanufactured stuff. I didn't use it until I needed to, in the winter. Thing would start but ran too bad to even charge. Ended up disconnecting the oil level cut off switch and it ran more stable until the head gasket blew. On taking the head off and inspecting the cylinder, it had a ridge on top like a 250K engine. Warranty was over since I didn't use it in months from purchase. In other words I purchased a used up generator that was advertised as new.
Edit: When I had the head off I realized the valves were not closing all the way. Ground the stems a bit and started first pull since.
That was my personal experience with Harbor Freight.

The one that I use all the time when power goes out is the little 1,200 W it gives me all the energy that I need, when the power goes out for good I'll use the 5,000 for two hours a day for the frig and hot water, in winter, to bathe with.......
Stay ahead by planning ahead....

A new Honda would run you 4 times that price. But, the question is, is it worth the discount if it's a pile of crap and won't last like a Honda. Most often, you get what you pay for. When you need a generator, you NEED it, and I'd have one of these as a backup at best. My two cents, but take that for what it is. They may be great and worth the low price. I have a small Honda 650 that runs like a champ. I am tempted to get one of those harbor freights though, just to have some redundancy.

I know a guy who bought one and used it to build houses. Ran the hell out of it. When it died he took it back and got another with the extended warranty. Personally I'd buy a decent one used off craigslist or at a garage sale.

So that's where mine came from!
