The international space station makes an orbit of the earth every 90 minutes. That means 16 times a day the international space station crosses the international date line. Each time it crosses the plane of this imaginary line the date either increases or decreases. A traveler crossing the IDL eastbound subtracts one day, or 24 hours, so that the calendar date to the west of the line is repeated after the following midnight.
Whoever keeps track of the calendar on the space station has an interesting job. Every two days he loses a month. The space station has been in orbit for around 14 years. 14 x 365 = 5,110 days. If every two days means a month has gone by as a result of the international date line crossing that means the station has a calendar year of 212 years ago. Right now on board the space station the year is 1802.
The revolution separating the American colonies from the British empire occurred 238 years ago.
Pretty soon the revolution is going to be a current event in space.

and the current year in Thailand is 2557. Does that mean they went into space before the US?
In Israel the current year is 5775. Using numerology compression the current year equates to 222.

Now as to the astronauts ... say one is 30 years old when he first arrives at the space station. He would have to stay on the space station for 720 days (almost 2 years) before he can return to earth as a newborn baby. I doubt if they let them stay up there that long for legal reasons.
The situation is more critical when you examine his age of consent. He becomes a mature adult at age 21 and that is only 9 years younger than the age he was when he arrived at the space station. He would only have to be on the space station for 216 days before he becomes a minor and is no longer considered legally responsible.

I can see nobody is going to shoot me down on the topic so I must correct my own errors. In the quoted calculation I was using my own frame of reference for time. This was a mistake. If the space station was launched in the year 2000 then its' countdown started in the same year. Right now the year should be 1788 m/l in the space station reference plane.
Time is getting short. Pretty soon it will arrive at a pre-constitutional era.

Time is sovereignty. So saith the Iowa State constitution where they establish Central Standard or Central Daylight as the time their persons use.
Which is why I use natural time instead. To me 6 a.m. always occurs at sunrise and 6 p.m. always occurs at sunset. Local apparent noon is 12 o'clock and is when the sun crosses the local meridian. This act of disobeying Central Time (commercial time) is one element by which sovereignty is defeated.
Now if you land in Thailand and start using their standard of time I don't doubt but that you are in the political state of Thailand. You will have fewer arguments available to you when you are held accountable to their laws.

Does the International Space station exist in it's own time, or does it exist in the 'now' that the entire earth (and the universe) exists in? The answer is obvious. Astronauts aboard the ISS do not get younger the longer they stay up there.

I didn't invent the rules regarding the international date line.
Natural law is
6am is sunrise
6pm is sunset
noon is when the sun is overhead
with this system there is no paradox required called an international date line
using man's laws (aka the rules of commerce) those astonauts are getting LEGALLY younger.

This would apply only at the Equator.

Nope. Applies everywhere. Just that commerce doesn't like it. Harder to figure when trains will arrive.

True, accurate programming of the sundials would be important.
