"the item is a “beautifully crafted, fully-functional gift card” made with sterling silver and “engraved with the Starbucks logo.”
Oh, and like other gift cards, it comes loaded, but in this case only with $50. In other words, the other $150 is the price for the physical card itself."

How much silver is in the card?
How much does it weigh and purity.

But not all consumers seem so excited. As one announced on Twitter: “Paying $200 for $50 gift card redeemable for high profit-margin coffee is the most American idiocy there is.”
This is the only idiocy that has the potetional to pay them back 100 fold.
As opposed to the next gadget from icrapple or samdung.

I estimate 10 to 15 grams, Sterling. In other words, a total rip-off.
But what else is new at Starschmucks? After all, a "Tall" is small, and a "Grande" (Large) is medium.
EDIT: about .025 pounds or 11.33 grams, gross; 10.48 grams net silver.

From CT's link:
Looked it up and that means that in actual value it is worth about $5.30.
I wonder how many people are buying them thinking they have actual value because they're made out of metal? The $200 price point implies that the card itself is worth $150, or at the very least more than $5. They're charging $145 on top of the card's total value just because it's limited stock and shiny, and people eat it up!

Technically its not a ripoff.
If somebody thinks thier brand is worth 150 over and above.
And their is a fool out their willing to pay it.
Why would i undercut myself?
The roman maxim applies:
If the people wish to be deicieved let them be decieved.

Technically its not a ripoff.
"Legally" it is not a ripoff, just as usury is "legally" not a ripoff.

I saw one, it was pretty small, with a key ring on it, which says to me this piece is more akin to a jewelry piece, or an accessory. It's definitely not bullion, as others posted here, and it is more than just a gift card, but it's probably being sold to upper-middle class women as a status symbol. I've seen prices higher than $150 for well crafted sterling silver jewelry before. I bet if this takes off they'll offer a gold one too.

Wow, that didn't take them long at all:
Only 14 Ultimate Starbucks cards have been made. The retail value of each card is $5,000 and is made of 10K hammered gold, according to the coffee giant. The winner's name will also be engraved on the card.

Wow, that didn't take them long at all:
Take note that the "ULTIMATE" "card" is indeed made with Gold, not fancy colored printed paper
oh, the irony

loosely related, first I've heard of VT's gmo-labeling bill, not even coerced by (pretend) "voters"... :o

Another reason why you should not go to Starbucks.
http://www.redicecreations.com/ul_img/32140startbucks.jpgStarbucks has an image of being a socially responsible, environmentally friendly company (Really?). In 2013, 95 percent of their coffee was ethically sourced, and their goal is to reach 100 percent by 2015.1
Other goals include reducing water consumption by 25 percent in their company-operated stores by 20152 and mobilizing their employees and customers to contribute 1 million hours of community service per year.3
They even removed all the high fructose corn syrup and artificial trans fats, flavors, and dyes from their entire menu… so the news that this forward-thinking company might be supporting Monsanto, the world leader in genetically modified (GM) crops and seeds, in their bid to block a GMO labeling bill in Vermont might seem strange.
Is Starbucks really in cahoots with Monsanto? Are they really trying to keep you in the dark about what kinds of genetically modified ingredients are in your food and beverages? Absolutely, albeit by proxy.
It Started with Vermont’s Historic GMO Labeling Bill…
On April 16, 2014, the Vermont Senate passed the first no-strings-attached GMO labeling bill (H.112) by an overwhelming margin—28-2. The bill sailed through a House/Senate conference committee and was approved by the House of Representatives on April 23.
On May 8, Governor Peter Shumlin signed the historic bill into law, which will require any genetically modified food sold in Vermont to be labeled by July 1, 2016.4 Foods containing GM ingredients would also not be allowed to be labeled "natural."

Starbucks is Jewish-owned and -controlled, and in Jewish business, image is everything. And, of course, most of that image is fake.
Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Latte contains no pumpkin, of course - just artificial flavoring. Like its overall image, the PSL is phony:
