Jerusalem (AFP) - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday Israel would never accept the "unilateral" recognition of a Palestinian state, after a draft resolution calling for a final peace deal was submitted to the UN.
In a statement from his office, Netanyahu accused Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas of "thinking he can threaten us by taking unilateral steps" over statehood.
"He doesn't understand that his authority in the West Bank will be overturned by Hamas like it was in Gaza," the Israeli premier added.
"We will never accept unilateral diktats," Netanyahu said.
The Palestinian draft resolution, submitted on Wednesday to the UN in New York, sets a 12-month deadline for wrapping up negotiations on a final settlement and the end of 2017 as the timeframe for completing an Israeli withdrawal from Palestinian territories.
A final peace deal would pave the way to the creation of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a shared capital, according to the text.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Leiberman also played down the chances of the Palestinians' UN bid achieving a breakthrough.
"Without Israel's agreement nothing will change," he said in a statement.
"The UN Security Council would do better to deal with the issues truly important to the safety and security of the citizens of the world... and not waste time on Palestinian gimmicks," Leiberman said.

Americans need to wake up! Our government has been corrupted and no longer serves the interests of the American taxpayers. Every politician who accepts "funding" or "support" from AIPAC needs to be voted out of office. All "dual-citizens", especially the neo-cons who saw fit to put American lives at risk in a "war on terror" need to be tried for treason and hung. It is time America stop funding Israel, they can do without the billions of aid we give. Their continued building of "settlements" to house the influx of Eastern Europeans who have no history or reason to be in the middle east is an affront to any effort to solve an already complicated problem. The real shame of this is that deluded American fundamental Christians, fed a diet of fantasy not even in the bible by self-righteous TV evangelists are brain dead enough to believe in fiction like "the rapture" and support Israel because they believe it will usher in the second coming of Jesus. I guess these same "Christians" forget who it was who turned Jesus in to the Romans...The Jews must be laughing at how gullible these fundamentalist Christians are.

Israel won't accept 'unilateral' Palestine bid: Netanyah

Now if you ever wondered if Hamas was an Israeli creation. Direct from the horses mouth!
