I was gifted an OLD bottle of Meyers Rum "Planters Punch" for Christmas. Didn't know how old it was till I researched it online.
Just knew it was exceptionally smooth and mellow for dark rum. Neat. Turns out it was bottled in the 1950's...
Merry Christmas.

does rum mix well with old steel? It does go well with juice. 5 types of rum, juice it up, crushed ice.

There was this expatriot bar in San Juan called Duffy's. They served a drink called the southern cross ... 5 shots of rum in a brandy snifter with nothing else. The last shot of rum was anejo 151%. Smooth drink.

A friend once had a couple of these with me. On his walk back to his apartment some Puerto Ricans threw beer cans at him so he got ticked off at PR, got a taxi to the airport and used his mastercard to buy a one way ticket to Canada. However he was so drunk they wouldn't let him on the plane. That was a good deal for him because he had the duty at base a couple hours later.

I was sharing it around a campfire last Saturday night with my 3 brothers and their grown children.
About halfway through the bottle I saw what looked like an angel in the fire. Jumped up and screamed Hallelujah,
then tripped backward over the log I was sitting on into a pile of leaves that had been raked away from the fire pit.
F**king angels. :) Merry Christmas everyone.

When I was a little kid in the '60s my aunt would walk with me to the local market in Detroit, place pretty much had everything. Anyways after we were back she dumped 3 5ths of vodka into gallon jars filled the rest with cherries and sealed them, let them sit in the sun til the cherries drowned. This was apparently good stuff as I don't remember much else. Oh Her fried chicken I can not duplicate to this day, I'm thinking it was the quality of chicken more then the basic recipe. No one back then wrote the simple recipes and all else are dead so a dead end for family secrets for me.
