From Bouvier
COMMORANCY, persons. An abiding dwelling, or continuing as an
inhabitant in any place. It consists, properly, in sleeping
usually in one place.,
COMMORANT. One residing or inhabiting a particular place.

If you choose not to be a resident perhaps commorancy is for you? I would speculate that residence involves a political settlement while commorancy places you in a parish (or other spiritual division).
