Interesting news out the past couple days.

First they announce they have found the Tomb of Osiris.

Then they announce they have found another tomb, this time for a previously unknown Queen and they also report that the tomb is a replica of the Osiris tomb. That is the way I am reading the stories. Not sure if that is actually what they are saying though.

Tomb of previously unknown pharaonic queen found in Egypt
Archaeologists have unearthed the tomb of a previously unknown queen and a replica of the mythological tomb of Osiris.

The queen is believed to have been the wife of Pharaoh Neferefre who ruled 4,500 years ago, officials in Egypt said.

The tomb was discovered in Abu Sir, an Old Kingdom necropolis southwest of Cairo where there are several pyramids dedicated to pharaohs of the Fifth Dynasty, including Neferefre.

The name of his wife had not been known before the find, Antiquities Minister Mamdouh al-Damaty said in a statement.

Then two days earlier they said that they had found the Tomb of Osiris.

Archeologists discover mythical Tomb of Osiris in Egypt

Archeologists have discovered an ancient tomb modeled after the mythical Tomb of Osiris (http://luxortimesmagazine.blogspot.com.es/2015/01/god-tomb-discovered-in-qurna.html) as described by Egyptian lore in the (http://www.efe.com/efe/noticias/espana/cultura/una-mision-hispano-italiana-descubre-replica-tumba-osiris-luxor/1/7/2502118) necropolis of Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, (http://www.efe.com/efe/noticias/espana/cultura/una-mision-hispano-italiana-descubre-replica-tumba-osiris-luxor/1/7/2502118) on the West Bank at Thebes. The complex includes a shaft that connects to multiple chambers, including one with demons holding knives.
The tomb—which was built following the descriptions of the Tomb of Osiris, like the Osireion in Abydos, one of the oldest cities of ancient Egypt—is centered around a statue of the god of the afterlife, Osiris. The emerald skinned deity is sitting in a central vaulted chapel facing a staircase with a 29.5-foot (9-meter) shaft in it. The shaft (in the center in the diagram below) connects to another room with a second shaft that goes down for 19.6 feet (6 meters) into two rooms.

I can't work out if these two stories are about the same tomb or different ones. They have known of these since the 1880's but not excavated in detail yet. I've noticed this about archeaology in Egypt. They seem to be taking about 100 years from making a discovery to actually going and looking at it in detail.

If I were running the show there'd be hundreds of thousands of people digging out as many as possible as quickly as possible. I'm sure it could be done in less than 100 years. Knowledge control?

Anyone else notice that these pyramids were dedidcated to these guys and not claimed to be tombs as we are always told? Seems all the pharoahs and kings are buried someplace else like in the valley of the kings.

I also find it interesting that they didnt know about Jesus and his immenent arrival. The Egyptions also had thousands of years to think about it and they had a bunch of different gods.

I also remember a few years back they did a satellite survey of the area and found like another 87 pyramids or something like that.

At the rate they are moving over there it may be another 500 years before we get the complete picture of ancient Egypt.

good observations. I've been puzzled by the slow pace of excavation. I understand it's hot and times of the year it's too arduous but 100 years? Seriously? Seems interesting Osiris is being announced at this time.
