There are a lot of people whose job hasn't existed since it was moved to China.

I guess a good field to be in would be robot repair technician.

Robots know how to farm?

Robots know how to farm?

Most aspects of it, yes. John Deere, et. al., have been pushing GPS-managed implements for years now. Set it up, and let it go.

I question whether I will even be needing my job in ten years.

Here's the problem with that - at some point AI is going to conclude "this farming is a waste of AI and robotic resources..." and that's the end of that.

Not to mention that something that lacks a soul will NEVER be in touch with nature (which is essential for farming).

I have seen those tractors at work before long they will not need a person setting in side of them . it's just a matter of time . only reason they have someone inside them now is to make sure the tractor doing what it should be doing only reason that's what I have been told...

the first and 2nd AI generations wont have consciousness but as they will continue to self-build/improve, that could/will change. It is all about data processing speed... a soul? that remains to be seen, I do not think so.

It is said that the archons are soul-less and cannot reproduce therefore... is it where the whole picture comes together?

@MR
kurzweil was speaking years ago about nanotech being able to replicate just any molecular structure, from rocks, metals to food and water.... meaning that farming would end at some point.

PS: 10 years is a optimistic estimate

Gigabyte Gourmet: AI Robot Learns To Cook Just By Watching YouTube Videos
Japanese giant Yaskawa Electric’s industrial robot Motoman turns over an “okonomiyaki”, a Japanese pancake at a robot exhibition in Osaka.

A team of American and Australian researchers claim they have created algorithms that enable robots to learn operational skills by watching human activities. They “taught” their robot to cook by showing it some YouTube videos.

Researchers from the University of Maryland and the Australian research center NICTA have been “educating” their robot using the so-called “deep learning” method of artificial intelligence training.

This method implies that a robot receives large chunks of information through a number artificial neural networks, be it audio and video images recognition or other information inputs, then sums the new data up and acts in accordance with the freshly obtained experience.... more

My cousin told me the same.

I know were there 10 of those tractors in one tractoe barn right now , the farmer grow on over 20.000 ac and leases more and they' s tractors are close to 400.000.00 paper bucks not cheap huh http://www.deere.com/en_US/products/equipment/tractors/four_wheel_drive_tractors/four_wheel_drive_tractors.page?

It makes perfect AI sense to stop most farming, they may want to keep a few of us alive, until they don't need our maintenance services any longer. They need electricity and metals, once they figured out how to get that without our participation we are toast...

An interesting question came to my mind... Could it be that all artificial intelligence might not agree with each other, factional fighting comes about, and that gives humanity a chance of survival between the factions? As far as I know the dystopian future involves only one artficial intelligence acting in unison against humanity, wouldn't it be more likely that several AI groupings would form that disagree on the way forward and thus focus on war against each other and therefore care less about killing of humanity if it poses no immediate threat to their groups survival...

You get ZERO argument on what you say from me!

Industrial agriculture has already sanitized the "organic" nature of growing food.

I grew up in the seat of a Farmall M and a Farmall MD. I thought I knew something about farming. I am completely lost in this modern hi tech world.
