I have to confess that i didn't understand the issues that Swartz fought for. Then I saw this movie:

He would have fit well here at GSUS. The movie is well done.

Here's an article that confirms the conclusion made in the movie: That the Obama administration regarded the anti-establishment activism of Swartz to be dangerous, and they had to set an example with their treatment of him.

This is a really interesting life story.
Jewish kid grows up a genius and develops a thirst for programming. Becomes a member of a group that develops RSS feeds, gets offered a scholarship at MIT (I think), here is where he gets the tap on the shoulder to join the elites. During his time at MIT he is part of the group that starts reddit, which gets sold for a bundle meanwhile he works on public domain issues within the legal system. In particular the scam of charging for court docs and rulings when they are supposed to be in the public domain, government responds to this bad press by opening up the court docs system allowing free access at eight libraries around the US, he cleverly writes a data dump program that is run from a USB drive and promptly begins to download nearly 2 million documents in a short period, gets a visit from the FEDS.
Next he moves onto downloading all the scientific publications in JSTOR at Stanford where he gets caught. During the investigation he organises the massive campaign to defeat SOPA by pressuring/shaming massive tech companies, within less than 24 hrs of these companies choosing not to support the Bill, the bill is withdrawn.
The FEDS pad out his charge sheet with more charges then the guy supposedly hangs himself. (which I don't buy, the guy was suicided)

Sweet! Now I don't have to watch it.
Then you'll be missing out.
Its a great documentary, there are plenty of tid bits here and there. Of all the mindless trash you can watch on telly, this isn't one to miss.;)

Thanks for a great summary, AeonDaze. I have to watch it again to sift out the connection with Elizabeth Warren. I'm not sure if it was because he was a young kid, or if he was like Tesla that made him a promoter of giving humanity access to their birthright--but it isn't a value strongly held by very many Jews. This was an exceptional kid. It was interesting that J Stor--the company whose documents he downloaded removed themselves from his case, and that it was the Federal Government that pursued criminal charges against him (to deter others like him--presumably). The movie paints him like Jesus Christ--turning over the tables of the greedheads.
