Most workers ‘want’ to work into their 70s, Government says

‘Most older workers are giving up the traditional idea of retirement and “want” to keep working into their seventies, ministers say.

In a study commissioned for the Government, just 17 per cent of people in their fifties said that stopping work entirely at age 60 or 65 was the “best way” to retire.

Nearly half of the under-65s who were not currently retired said they would like to still be in work until they were 70.

Just under 40 per cent said they preferred to work part-time or flexible hours as their career came to a close.’
