Just looking down the road at my next car/ truck purchase. Basically looking at 4 door sedans.

I like old Mercedes' but that can be a holy grail.

And it can also make the car a target for robbery.

I wonder if some cars, like the Buick Regal for example, are in a sense more secure.

More boring, easier to not notice.

Chevy Impala perhaps ?

I don't know Gun, maybe a Ford or Chevy pickup with a camper on it? I know my RV has never been messed with. I think criminals know there might be a guy in there with a gun, so they move on to easier targets. A wise decision for them.

My old toyota tacoma was a magnet though. It was a target for catalytic converter thieves because it was so easy to get to. High clearance, etc.

In my experience one with about one foot deep of trash. All sorts of life litter in the car. A short roll of carpet or some linoleum. When your finished eating, just relax the fingers and let it fall. You could put money out in the open no problems. I should have taken a photo of this car parked a couple weeks ago. I never seen anything like it and I've seen bad. No one was going in that car. I wanted it moved and I went out and seen it was unlocked, window down and keys in. There was no way I was getting in to move it and I didn't even want to reach in and key the steering to push it. Let alone go for the shifter and handbrake.

what about a crown? or a Wildcat? 300C like a gen II.

i lived in a high crime area in Sonoma County for 4 years without incident. I had decent off-street parking.

I was talking with one of the guys at the gym about Collapse Humboldt style. Basically the downtown areas of Arcata & Humboldt are like the high-crime area about 1/2 mile from where I ended up finding an apartment, in Sonoma County.

There was this one street where Mexicans typically robbed the gringo's cars where I also looked for an apartment. Talked to some really pissed off gringo's in the process of moving.

Makes me think about reinforcing the windows on my cars. Or putting bars on the windows - of the car.

No, don't do that! A car with a near empty gas tank is a bomb on wheels, fumes in the tank. If you get in an accident, those windows might be the only way you can get out of the car before it bursts into flames.

Also, for safety you should also have something handy near by to bust out a window in an emergency. They make tools for that, a sharp tip on one end, and a seat belt cutter on the other.

WOW, you guys are concerned about my safety !

When I moved to my present place, my possessions weighed in at 4500 pounds and my tools weighed in at 17,000+ pounds.

I'm having a marathon slow-motion garage sale.

I would probably put my less valuable tools in gray bins in the back seat of the sedan. so then it's an easy smash & grab unless I park it somewhere protected.

I'm talking to guys at the gym about the move. Might park the sedan, whatever I get, in a friend's driveway.

Collapse is fascinating. I hope & pray that I can continue dodging the bullets associated with collapse.

Hermano, the ex-pat from Humboldt, still has family there, and every single day at the gym he has a fresh story about burglary.

i wonder if there's room for one more home-security expert ? :-)

Nig nogs love Impalas and Jettas.

Old rusty 3/4 ton Chevy. Preferably 8 lugs so they're dubs wont bolt up.

Would be interesting to see what this would be like if it were engineered now. 250W electric motor then to maybe a 400W+ today? They say only 200watts but changing to 250watts in 2014.

Add some carbon fibre for frame and wheels. LED's for lights. Better batteries of course. its also a hybrid but you need to eat your spinach. based on a recumbent bicycle.

I think this was designed by the Sinclair of early kit computers fame. I built one of his computers when in high school. It was really just a plug together kit - ZX81. I'm sure others on here have had one.

Get a VW Beetle, then just take the distributor cap with you wherever you go.
