I dont archer but I'd like to. Don't really care for standing down range and plinking away at some rings on paper. I've been looking at the rules here on bows. Not quite as onerous as I thought. Cross bows are out but you can hunt with bows.
Some one posted that YT of the kid with the home made shotgun.... a zipper or something it was called. He plays around with archery too. Definitely worth checking his few videos out. Can't recall what thread that was in.
It was one of Shami's threads: http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?81792-Shotgun-Shell-Inception-!

@me?
yes I did watch it. Impressive stuff. Compared to standing in a park and shooting a big circles I think what he does is more realistic and useful.
I'm wondering if there is a competition for this kind of archery like ISPC for handguns.

While 99% of the population seems to care about fucking around with their i phones, this guy mastered a timeless skill and brought it alive.
The same kind of dedication and patience it took to paint the Sistine Chapel. Truly remarkable.

Very cool! You can almost fly with it in hand luggage... Though I wouldn't recommend it... They barely let me through with 3 hand smithed Estonian window hooks, about 3 inches long, today at the airport in Sweden! They are only slightly more vicious than a spoon!

best bet is to travel with some bow strings and learn how to make one from pvc pipe.

Being from the midwest has it benefits....archery is a huge sport around here.
As a kid growing up we would go to Cedar Rapids IA every year for the Iowa state contest. My dad and uncle would place up in the upper top 10 when there wasnt all the fancy hand releases and sites or 90% let off compounds....they shot recurve bows. Older brother placed 2nd one year.
I'd say roughly a 1/3 of the deer hunting seasons is bow hunting in Iowa. And a good portion of the deer hunters I know use shot guns, bow and black powder 50 cals all in one year.....sometimes they just bag one and sometimes they bag 5 or 6 deers each.
Me......I'd rather go fishing.

archery is gonna be a big part of my SHTF future
store bought take-down recurve
( 2 in caches / 24# draw / close hunting )
PVC bow ( paint camo and leave it in a thicket )
Bundle bow ( make 2 / month - April > October )
Sling Bow ( easy to cache )
and the never-ending task of making DIY shafts, arrowheads and strings
as much as I like to make my own stuff
when I have some extra $$$, i'll buy aluminum shafts and broadheads

SHTF
was to ever happen huning with a bow would be the best way to go , no gun shot to be heard ,that would be the way to go so you don't have to fight for the food you just took .
