On another note I found a war nickel in change the other day, however it's ugly as sin and it's only worth about 1 FRN unfortunately.

The nickel is actually worth over 3 million dollars. It's a "Liberty Nickel" that was minted in 1913.
dam now need to go back though all my old coins

I'm probably the only GSUS'er who really likes war nickels. The cheapest premium for a known weight and purity of silver.

Either they wanted everyone to know because they are good little sheep or the whole story is a sham on some front.

A numismatic piece of that magnitude would be impossible to sell under the radar.

Not necessarily true if one found an anon buyer willing to buy at a huge discount.

Point taken, but you would need some knowledge of the numismatic community in order to do that without a third party broker. People like this who have no idea about coins wouldn't know the first thing about it.
