Donetsk (Ukraine) (AFP) - Ukraine's pro-Russian rebel chief on Monday branded the country's leaders "miserable" Jews in an apparent anti-Semitic jibe.
Alexander Zakharchenko, leader of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, claimed that Kiev's pro-Western leaders were "miserable representatives of the great Jewish people".
"I can't remember a time when Cossacks were led by people who have never held a sword in their hands," Zakharchenko told a press conference in the eastern rebel stronghold of Donetsk, in a reference to Ukraine's nationalist forebears, the Cossacks.
Zakharchenko said that the country's historical nationalists "would turn in their graves if they could see who is running Ukraine."
Anti-Semitic sentiment remains widespread in Ukraine, where leaders are commonly labelled as Jewish by those seeking to discredit them.
The comments by Zakharchenko, who was flanked by the leader of the neighbouring rebel-held region of Lugansk, Igor Plotnitsky, were carried live by Russian news channel Rossiya-24.
The rebels leaders on Monday announced a mass call-up, aimed at bolstering their forces to 100,000 troops.
Fighting between Ukrainian forces and the pro-Russian rebels, which has claimed 5,100 lives since April, has surged in recent weeks after the collapse of a tenuous ceasefire deal.

One of the reasons these people are separatists is because they can see where Ukraine is going. That is to the same ideological junkyard where it was under the Soviet Union. When the Jews were in power in the USSR, they carried out Stalin's collectivzaation of agriculture by starving the Kulaks--(small private farmers) resulting in millions of them starving to death. This was called the Holodomor. I'm not surprised that the people of Donbass see the jews as ruthless ideologues. The worst of the soviet ideologues in concert with the 'right sector'--the Nazis of Ukraine. . These Russian speakers are right in thr cross-hairs for ethnic cleansing.

We here in the US should pay more attention to what is going on in Eastern Ukraine because it can happen here. Those 'seperatists' recognize fascism and reject it violently. Here is a video of the aftermath of the struggle for the Donetsk airport. The Ukranian army commanders sent in a group of young soldiers telling them that their job was to evacuate the wounded. When they got there, there were no wounded, and their commanders gave them the order to Attack. Being unprepared for this, they got their asses handed to them by the separatists. The video has some pretty gruesome scenes, but it gives you s sense for what this war is about.

Take not of the number of captured soldiers that tell the story of being sent to evacuate the wounded at the airport. There is another video where the separatist commanders are describing that what the Ukrainian Army is doing is delivering them fresh meat. The separatists are better soldiers. They have volunteers from western countries fighting with them, and they resupply themselves by capturing supplies and weapons from the Ukrainian army.
