never ever heard of this before never ... WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Marines handed over their remaining weapons to Yemenis at the airport in the capital, Sanaa, on Wednesday before boarding commercial aircraft to leave the country following the closure of the U.S. embassy, the Pentagon said.

The Pentagon said the Marines destroyed heavy weapons in their embassy arsenal, including machine guns, before leaving for the airport but remained armed with smaller weapons until the end to ensure a safe exit from the country.
"The movement from the embassy to the aircraft required armed Marines," Army Colonel Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, said at a briefing.
The U.S. embassy closure and the evacuation of embassy personnel came after the Houthi militia group - which overran Sanaa in September - formally took power last week. The Shi'ite Muslim group is stridently anti-American and is backed by Iran.
A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, estimated that about 100 Marines made up the embassy contingent that left the country.
Asked whether the Marines turned over their weapons to Houthi fighters, Warren said: "It's unclear, frankly. We believe they turned them over to government officials at the airport, prior to boarding the aircraft."
"As everyone knows, weapons are generally not authorized on commercial aircraft," Warren said. He said the Marines were probably carrying handguns and assault rifles until their departure.
Yemen, which borders oil giant Saudi Arabia, had long been at the forefront of the U.S.-led war against al Qaeda. But the long-standing diplomatic alliance between Washington and Sanaa appears to have been suspended with the United States.
France and Britain also closed their embassies on Wednesday due to security fears.
Despite the closure of the U.S. embassy, some American military personnel remain in the country conducting training operations with Yemeni military forces and "retain the capability to conduct counterterrorism operations if required," Warren said.
Still, U.S. officials have privately acknowledged that the political upheaval has undermined their counterterrorism effort, including the collection of intelligence.

I remember they did this before. Trying to recall where it was. Was it libya? Nah I think it was somewhere else. Same story line though. Flew them out on commercial craft. Probably logisitically easier. More seats in a commercial airline. Probably could lift the whole contingent in one go. Plus there a movies and a bar.... and food.

I have never heard of so much BULLSHIT in all my life............WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON WITH THIS COUNTRY?

What would happen if the plane is shot down five miles from the airport in enemy territory? commercial airline? BULLSHIT, they are under the command of the military........just more excuses to leave more weapons behind to alongate the war effort of our beloved leader......we are now in a continuous war with no ending on site..............we are soooooooooooooo screwed.

Yep, had both my fathers and grandfathers pistols from WW1 & WW2. Different weapons good for only close combat. Dad was saying something about the serial number registered to the person it was issued. Paper that was written on is long gone.

The US Supported al-Qaeda terrorists fighters have fallen.Even With thousands of drone strikes killing thousands, the people of that country have kicked out the US lead terror that we have supported. The fall of a US Embassy always means that US Colonial terror has come to an end just like in Vietnam, the fall of the Embassy meant that the people would finally be free. Other countries that we have recently terrorized will not fare as well as Libya lies in ruin and run by our supported roving gangs of al-Qaeda ISIS killers. Syria is trying to hold on to their country but US boots on the ground to fight ISIS is really there to kill Assad and rape what is left of that country like we did in Libya. If Assad falls the first act of the new US puppet regime will be to install a US FED controlled Central bank like what happened in Libya the first day of the new regime. Then take their gold then their oil and kill the Russian pipeline is the plan for Syriahttp://gold-silver.us/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7289&stc=1
