The Health Ranger has started this new system where you can get cheap parts and print up other parts on a 3D Printer to make your own hydroponics system.

Seems a bit more complicated than putting seeds in earth...

Not everyone has "earth".

Exactly!

Plus , well there are several, one is optimal growing conditions can be created, can be setup dam near anywhere, optimal use of nutrients and ability to recycle the water, more crops with less water and less waste of water by evaporation, etc, etc ! Lot's of places where dirt farming has a problem if there is not enough rainfall to flush salts and such out of the soil that are irrigated from other sources is mineral build up in the soil and then the soil becomes worthless for agriculture, Hydroponics avoids all of that.

For a given area of land acreage the same acreage used say with a multi story building on that same land, can produce many times more crops along with many more types of crops all grown at the same time, and with climate control grow those crops year long, multiple of harvests where normally only one or two (spring and fall plantings).

And the list of benefits goes on and on.

Rockwool in a plastic pan, elevated slightly on 2x4's, achieves the same effect with no moving parts.

The pans are watered until the water is about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the rockwool.

The rockwool acts like a pump, and a sponge.

Though generally I think any product that helps people learn hydro, aqua, and all the different -ponics
is a good product.
