I love how Fox News pushes these stories that suit the agenda against Putin. Same thing with ISIS killing Christians to get the public behind putting more troops in the middle east. Why no coverage of Tom Schweich, Suicidal Candidate, Got $200K From Republicans and how he was exposing massive corruption of politicians?

Boris Nemtsov has been shot dead in Moscow. He was one of the most charismatic leaders of the “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” opposition in Russia (please understand that in the Russiancontext “liberal” and “democratic” means pro-US or even CIA-run, while “non-system” means too small to even get a single deputy in the Duma).

He was shot just a few days before the announced demonstration of the very same “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” opposition scheduled for March 1st.

As I have already explained many times on this blog, the “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” opposition in Russia has a popular support somewhere in the range of 5% (max). In other words, it is politically "dead" (for a detailed explanation, please read “From Napoleon to Adolf Hitler to Conchita Wurst“). In the hopes of getting a higher number of people to the streets the “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system”opposition allied itself with the ultra-nationalists (usually useful idiots for the CIA) and the homosexual activists (also useful idiots for the CIA). Apparently, this was not enough.

And now, in "perfect" timing, Nemtsov is murdered.

We all know the reaction of the CIA propaganda machine. It will be exactly the same as for MH-17: Putin the Murderer!!! Democracy Shot!! Freedom Killed!! etc. etc. etc. etc.

There is no doubt in my mind at all that either this is a fantastically unlikely but always possible case of really bad luck for Putin and Nemtsov was shot by some nutcase or mugged, or this was a absolutely prototypical western false flag: you take a spent politician who has no credibility left with anyone with an IQ over 70, and you turn him into an instant “martyr for freedom, democracy, human right and civilization”.

By the way if, as I believe, this is a false flag, I expect it to be a stunning success in the West and a total flop in Russia: by now, Russians already can smell that kind of setup a mile away and after MH-17 everybody was expecting a false flag. So, if anything, it will only increase the hostility of Russians towards the West and rally them around Putin. In the Empire, however, this will be huge, better than Politkovskaya or Litvinenko combined. A “Nemtsov” prize will be created, a Nemtov statue will be place somewhere (in Warsaw?), the US Congress will pass a “Nemtsov law” and the usual combo package of “democratic hagiography” will be whipped-up.

What worries me most is that the Russian security services did not see this one coming and let it happen. This is a major failure for the FSB which will now have a lot at stake to find out who did it. I expect them to find a fall-guy, a patsy, who will have no provable contacts with any western services and who, ideally, might even have some contacts with the Russian services (like Andrei Lugovoi).

As for the “liberal” or “democratic” “non-system” – it will probably re-brand the upcoming protests as a “tribute to Nemtsov” thereby getting more people into the streets.

There are folks in Langley tonight who got a promotion.

This morning idly perusing materials on the murder last night, "opposition politician" Boris Nemtsov. I think the man has become clear to whom it is profitable. On the altar of the "war on Putin" put another "sacrificial lamb" after a string of such "lambs" in the face Yuschenkova, Politkovskaya, Litvinenko, Berezovsky ... (the list is huge).

There is no desire to understand his relationship with the "Ukrainian model", according to profiles on social networks out there that still svidomye family of why sharply "moved" in Russia, Moscow and Saratov, in any case, in social networks. It is clear that the "model" used in the dark.
But one screenshot of the network I was interested.
Here it is (Sori for bad quality)

I have a hard time figuring out just exactly what the hell is going on in Ukraine. It always seems like it's the same murderous criminals up to their usual thieiving, lying and murder trying to get control of what ever wealth someone else has.

There's an article over at Paul Craig Roberts site that I think sums it up pretty well though and gives a pretty good account of what's probably going on.

Nemtsov Murder: Anti-Putin False Flag! — Stephen Lendman

Posted By pcr3 On February 28, 2015 @ 7:45 am In Guest Contributions,Other

As if on cue, the murder yesterday of Boris Nemtsov, a Washington-funded Russian “opposition politician” with a tiny following, has become a major news item for the American presstitute media. The presstitutes have responded as if orchestrated by a conductor with insinuations of Putin’s responsibility and the death of democracy in Russia.

Stephen Lendman who watches these matters closely notes that clearly Nemtsov is worth more to Washington dead than alive.

Nemtsov Murder: Anti-Putin False Flag!
by Stephen Lendman

Overnight Friday, opposition politician/Putin antagonist Boris Nemtsov was shot and killed in central Moscow.
Tass said he was “shot dead (by) four shots from a handgun from a car passing by him…”
He was RPR-Parnas party co-chair, a Yaroslavi Oblast regional parliament member, and Solidarnost co-founder/co-chair – modeled after CIA-financed anti-communist Lech Walesa’s Polish Solidarnosc.

In the 1990s, he held various government posts – including first deputy prime minister and deputy prime minister under Boris Yeltsin.

He served in Russia’s lower house State Duma and upper house Federation Council. He ignored clear US responsibility for Ukrainian crisis conditions. He lied calling Donbass “Vladimir Putin’s war.”

Before Washington’s coup, he said “(w)e support Ukraine’s course toward European integration…By supporting Ukraine, we support ourselves.”

Along with Aleksey Navalny, Garry Kasparov, Vladimir Ryzhkov, and other Putin opponents, he had close Western ties.
He got State Department funding through the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). It wages war on democracy worldwide.

It advances US interests. Its board of directors includes a rogue’s gallery of neocon extremists.
In 2009, Nemtsov and Kasparov met personally with Obama. They discussed anti-Putin tactics – regime change by any other name.

Nemtsov’s killing was strategically timed – ahead of Sunday’s Vesna (Russian Spring anti-government) opposition march.
I’ll now be a Nemtsov memorial rally – turning an anti-Putin/pro-Western opportunist/convenient stooge into an unjustifiable martyr.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “Putin has stressed that this brutal murder has all (the) signs of a contract murder and is extremely provocative.”

“The president has expressed his deep condolences to the family of tragically deceased Nemtsov.”
Serial-killer/unindicted war criminal Obama “condemn(ed) (his) brutal murder.”
He ludicrously called him “a tireless advocate for his country, seeking for his fellow Russian citizens the rights to which all people are entitled.”
“I admired Nemtsov’s courageous dedication to the struggle against corruption in Russia and appreciated his willingness to share his candid views with me when we met in Moscow in 2009.”
“(T)he Russian people…have lost one of the most dedicated and eloquent defenders of their rights.”
John Kerry made similar duplicitous comments.

Mikhail Gorbachev called his killing “an attempt to complicate the situation in the country, even to destabilize it by ratcheting up tensions between the government and the opposition.”

Nemtsov was a Western financed self-serving opportunist. His killing has all the earmarks of a US-staged false flag. Cui bono remains most important.

Clearly Putin had nothing to gain. Rogue US elements have lots to benefit from trying to destabilize Russia.
If Putin wanted Nemtsov dead, it’s inconceivable he’d order a Mafia-style contract killing. An “unfortunate” plane or car crash would have been more likely.
Perhaps cleverly poisoning him the way Obama murdered Chavez and Sharon killed Arafat.
Gunning him down in central Moscow automatically rules out Kremlin involvement.

His demise has all the earmarks of a CIA-staged false flag. Expect no evidence whatever surfacing suggesting Putin’s involvement.
Nemtsov’s martyrdom is much more valuable to Washington than using him alive as an impotent opposition figure.

Despite challenging economic conditions, Putin’s approval rating exceeds 85%. Nemtsov’s party has less than 5%. He was no popular favorite. Most Russians disliked him.

Expect his hyped martyrdom to be fully exploited in the West. Does Washington plan more political assassinations to heighten the Nemtsov effect?

Expect Sunday’s march to be nothing more than another US failed attempt to enlist anti-Putin support.

Russians aren’t stupid. They know how Washington operates. How it vilifies their government. How neocon lunatics in charge are capable of anything.

They know Washington bears full responsibility for Ukrainian crisis conditions. How Putin goes all-out trying to resolve them diplomatically.

Obama wants war, not peace. He wants destabilizing regime change in Russia – perhaps by nuclear war if other methods fail.

Killing Nemtsov changes nothing. Expect Western anti-Putin propaganda to fall flat after a few days of suggesting his involvement.

The New York Times practically accused him of murder calling Nemtsov’s killing “the highest-profile assassination in Russia during (his) tenure.”
His death occurred “just days before he was to lead (an anti-Putin) rally to protest the war in Ukraine.”

The Times absurdly claimed “doors are now closing on the vision of a pluralistic political system of the type (Nemtsov) said he wanted for Russia.”
It quoted discredited (on corruption charges) Putin opposition figure Gennady Gudkov saying “(t)hey have started to kill ‘enemies of the people.’ Mr. Nemtsov is dead. Who is next?”

The Times called him a “dashing, handsome young politician..often touted as an heir apparent to (Boris) Yeltsin.”

Neocon Washington Post editors called his murder “another dark sign for Russia.”
They flat-out lied saying he “was a courageous Russian politician who never gave up on the dream that the country could make the transition from dictatorship to liberal democracy.”
They tried turning a nobody into a political icon. Ludicrously claiming he “be(came) one of the most enduring political figures of the post-Soviet era.”
Disgracefully saying “he was by no means the first Putin opponent to be murdered in brazen fashion.” Practically accusing Putin of ordering his killing.
Claiming he’s “unwilling to tolerate opposition of any kind.” Ignoring his overwhelming popularity. His opposition does a good job of rendering itself irrelevant.

Neocon Wall Street Journal editors proved true to form. They outrageously said “(i)n the gangster state that is Vladimir Putin’s Russia, we may never learn who shot Boris Nemtsov in Moscow late Friday night.”
They absurdly claimed “he might have steered Russia toward a decent future had he been given a chance.”
“Instead, he was fated to become a courageous voice for democracy and human rights who risked his life to alert an indifferent West to the dangers of doing business with the man in the Kremlin.”

Journal and like-minded editorials and commentaries repeated one Big Lie after another. Irresponsible Putin bashing substitutes for honest reporting and analysis.

Nemtsov’s killing is Washington’s latest attempt to destabilize Russia. It’s part of its longstanding regime change strategy.

It bears repeating. Russians are too smart to fall for thinly veiled US schemes.

Their overwhelming support for Putin shows flat rejection of what Washington neocons have in mind for their country.

Boris Nemtsov’s Killers Tried to Destabilize Russia – Gorbachev
Sunday 1st March 2015

‘Soviet ex-President Mikhail Gorbachev sees the assassination of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov as an attempt to destabilize Russia. He also warns against calls to give excessive powers to law enforcement and security agencies.

---------------------------
“The assassination of Boris Nemtsov is an attempt to complicate the situation in the country, even to destabilize it by ratcheting up tensions between the government and the opposition,” Gorbachev said.
“Just who did this is hard to say, let’s not jump to any conclusions right now and give the investigators time to sort this all out,” he added.’

Guardian Retracts Anti-Russian Story Based on ‘Research’ of Own Reporter
march 1
The Guardian was forced to correct an article claiming Russian military units fired on the Ukrainian Army from inside the Russian border after Sputnik news agency learned the newspaper’s reporter had himself jointly authored the research on which the story was based.

On Tuesday Eliot Higgins, a self-styled “citizen journalist” wrote a joint news article with the Guardian’s Diplomatic Editor, Julian Borger, based on a study published by the so-called “Bellingcat investigative group”. Under the headline “Russia shelled Ukrainians from within its own territory, says study” Higgins and Borger detail the claims made by the group based on “self-taught” analysis of satellite maps freely available on the internet.’

Gorbachev also said that it had all the hallmarks of a FF because why would the state do it in broad day light. He said if Putin wanted to do him in, he would have done it on the quiet.

I looking into this story and the background of the people who made the report and I thought, they had to be joking and could not be taking that report seriously. I suspected it was one of those international "watching" organizations that report on say the Syria conflict but are actually operating out of London somewhere, not in the zone, never been to the zone and were filling news reports from London and pretending to be in Syria... it was the gas attack FF that revealed what they were up to.

Then looking at these particular guys, there were 3 I think and 2 of them had bios that basically said they were not skilled in military intelligence or ballistics or explosives or weaponry and basically taught themselves everything they knew. So right there they had no cred and no actual ability or knowledge of the things they spoke about.

Russian Opposition: Putin Did NOT Assassinate Opposition Leader Boris Nemtsov
feb 2

U.S. media is quick to blame Putin for the assassination of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov.

But Itina Khakamada – a top ally of Nemtsov in the opposition – said the killing was “clearly not in Putin’s interest. It’s aimed at rocking the situation.”

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev says the the killing is aimed at “destabilizing the situation in the country, at heightening confrontation” with the West.

Gorbachev says:

The assassination of Boris Nemtsov is an attempt to complicate the situation in the country, even to destabilize it by ratcheting up tensions between the government and the opposition.

Even the U.S. government’s Voice of America states – in an article entitled “Could Nemtsov Threaten Putin in Death as in Life?” – that Putin loses much more than he gains by the assassination:’

(redpilltimes... good name for a news site by the way)

How do you now it’s a false flag? When John McCain surfaces to express his ‘heartfelt’ condolences to his friend Boris Nemtsov…
‘If you had any doubts about the Kremlin at midnight, point blank, Ukrainian model by his side, hollywood scripted murder of Russian 5th columnist Boris Nemtsov, then the fact that his good friend, Senator John McCain is throwing his hat in the ring should be a clear signal that the USA (or at the very least the neo-con sociopaths in Washington) had an active hand in the newest ‘Putin is Evil’ false flag.

While McCain’s post is not the same as say…showing up in Kiev during the Maidan and making a speech in front of gathered protestors…the fact that the Arizona Senator has once again crawled out of his evil lair to make such a post definitely means something.

Here is Senator McCain statement from his website in full…’
Washington, D.C. *– U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today released the following statement on the murder of Russian opposition leader and human rights activist Boris Nemtsov:

“I was devastated to learn of the murder in Moscow today of my friend Boris Nemtsov. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and many friends in Russia and around the world. With his death, the struggle for free speech and human rights in Russia has suffered another devastating blow.

“That Boris’s murder occurred in a secure part of the Russian capital raises legitimate questions about the circumstances of his killing and who was responsible. But regardless of who actually pulled the trigger, Boris is dead because of the environment of impunity that Vladimir Putin has created in Russia, where individuals are routinely persecuted and attacked for their beliefs, including by the Russian government, and no one is ever held responsible.

“I had long been concerned about Boris’s safety, and said so publicly. I will never forget the last meeting we had. I begged him to be careful, and Boris told me that he would never give up the fight for freedom, human rights, and rule of law for his fellow Russians, even if it cost him his life. I am heartbroken that it has come to that. There must be a full investigation of Boris’s murder, and those responsible must be held accountable. The world will be watching.”

Yulia Brazhnikova (http://cont.ws/post/76800/) - Cont
Translated by Kristina Rus

Political senselessness of Nemtsov's murder is obvious. It will not cause a wave of popular anger, nor attempts to change the state order. Criticisms by Boris Nemtsov looked so naive, that played into the hands of the authorities, putting down the opposition in the eyes of citizens. He was not only harmless, but in this sense, even useful. With such enemies, as they say, there is no need for friends.

In general, there is something wrong with the fifth column in Russia. In other countries they have many supporters, they fight for influence and keep the ruling party in tone. In Russia, despite all the buckets of mud, regularly poured by the liberals on the heads of the Kremlin leaders, their value is dropping rapidly day by day.

All anti-government activities somehow are unpopular. Attempts to organize marches and rallies do not gather many participants. The statements of leading "leftist" activists more often provoke laughter, so powerless they are in their malevolence, and their arguments cause vague doubts about the level of their education. The speakers are only concerned about flexing their intellectual qualities, and not presenting their position or supporting the discussion. In some cases, their speech is so tactless that it humiliates not the opponents, but the speakers.

Probably, our overseas partners did not expect such a toothless opposition, when they embedded it on the Russian expanses. Pragmatic America needs results, and they are not interested in nurturing agents, who then become losers, and discredit the very idea of the opposition. And if our opponents, so sophisticated in their evil, resort to such cruel and bloody provocations and sacrificial murders, in fact, such actions are not useless. It's just that their reason and purpose are not what they seem.

The idea for the murder was likely given by Nemtsov himself. On February 10, in the interview, he, under the influence of some fatal impulse, cited his mother's concerns about Putin. And although he didn't talk about the direct threat, as it turned out, the pretext was immediately taken advantage of [turns out the idea about a threat from Putin was just imagination of the editors (http://fortruss.blogspot.com/2015/03/the-article-that-killed-nemtsov-was-fake.html)]. No sooner said than done. This suggests that the murder was planned in advance, and the careless allusion was just a convenient trigger.

One of the theories of the tragedy was suggested by the most popular internet-analysts: Nemtsov's murder is a way to inspire the lazy opposition for more important feats. In other words, the liberals are not giving their money's worth. Russian Maidan is not materializing, a coup is not even a thought in a very distant future. And the main thing that annoys Western revolution specialists is the rating of the Russian President which does not want to fall. It is not clear in this case what their "proxys" are engaged in.

With specific regard to Nemtsov - his passionate rhetoric was more amusing and seemed like a game, not sharp, but deliberately ridiculous. It's as if he specifically chose completely implausible accusations against his opponents that look ridiculous in the eyes of the Russian public. And though long and strong ties of Boris Nemtsov with the United States are not to be questioned, his behavior was somehow not American. This is not the style of State Department - he has no malice, nor aggression, nor inhuman cold pragmatism of the New World.

I wonder why he was not corrected? Where were all his speechwriters and image-makers? Why his friends-liberals did not push him away, if he could not cope with the responsibility to discredit the government, and Putin in particular? I think, if not the opposition itself, then its American owners should have long ago gotten rid of the politician, who shows them in an unfavorable light.

However, according to relatives and friends, Boris Efimovich was not a naive critic of the Kremlin. Why would he? Education of a physical scientist in any case provides a good logical basis and sober thinking. Besides, after a long and varied political career, he should have gained some experience. But then such attacks in the spirit of the offended third grader are hardly the fault of Nemtsov - it seems that he, mildly speaking, was playing a fool on purpose. Such a teenage style, which painted an overall very primitive level of the Russian opposition, was chosen not accidentally.

Pay attention to the sincerity of grief over the death of Boris Nemtsov. The crowd on the bridge and the mountain of flowers is genuine. On the background of a general dislike of liberals, who, are often, deservedly so, considered collaborators, compassion expressed for Nemtsov, killed under explicitly political circumstances, suggests that his anti-government position is not so simple - people cannot be deceived. The true traitor of the Motherland will not have so much sympathy.

The murder itself has too many oddities, as always in such cases. And yet it is not like ordinary domestic or political case:

- witness left alive,

- too many shots,

- the shots fired at the back (a killer, especially in such close contact, shoots in the front in the area of the heart)

- too many mistakes,

- there is no final shot to the head,

- very suspicious snowplow.

At the same time the precision of actions is astounding. Likely the route and the timing of the snowplow was calculated. Deliberate negligence allowed in order to divert suspicion from the involvement of any special agencies. A clear handwriting makes it easier to find a professional. As in the July false flag on a subway, everything was done too unprofessionally. And, despite the apparent amateurism, in both cases, the crime was successful.

Hardly a politician with such experience as Nemtsov, could easily bite on a fake model beauty, and even from Ukraine. Of course, a honey trap could work. But to sit with her in a café in the open, and then walk the streets in downtown Moscow - why so openly demonstrate your relationship to the public? Most likely, the girl promised some sort of "extremely important" information about the next Kiev provocation, which she could not share in the walls of an apartment or office. Then asked for a meeting in a public place. Very naturally.

By the way, if you didn't notice, the information about the activities of Nemtsov in connection with the Ukrainian crisis began to leak online only after his death. According to experts, it is not very clear in what capacity he appeared in Kiev. The fact of his engagement in such a serious business testifies to a rather high profile of Boris Nemtsov, and certainly not about his stupidity.

Let's start with the fact that such a well-known and strongly associated with America politician would simply be blocked from access to Kiev, if he really could somehow interfere there with the interests of Russia. In connection with the war in Novorossia, which is already for a year hanging on the brink of WWIII, Putin is playing an incredibly fragile game on the edge of a razor blade, not allowing the warring parties to slip into fiery chaos. And anyone who decided to rudely interrupt and disturb the delicate balance would be dealt with not now, but a year ago or even earlier. Hence, Nemtsov's visit to Kiev and his "friendship" with Poroshenko in fact did not contradict the Russian political discourse.

Then why did he take on such a strange task - for many years to represent a character, which is likely to appeal to the Ukrainian rulers? Essentially, he played the role of major politician from Russia, who, being in opposition to the government really wants to help the "emerging Kiev democracy"; the role of sincere opponent and a personal enemy of the Russian President (remember his behavior at the beginning of 2012). Even the level of his statements has been adjusted specifically for the lowered by the Western psychotherapists intelligence of ukra-idiots.

It turns out, for example, that Boris Efimovich simply played Poroshenko about the "evidence of the presence of Russian military in Ukraine". A perfect excuse to enter the trust circle - of course, the junta immediately got on the hook of such a valuable informant. So far such evidence has not even been provided by the CIA. Why would Nemtsov suddenly have it? It turns out that he deliberately deceived the Kiev authorities. The only explanation - it was a good disguise to infiltrate behind enemy lines. The result is known to all: the defeat of the Ukrainian troops, ending of hostilities and the Minsk agreement, meaning fiasco of the State Department policy in Ukraine.

From all the above, it follows that Nemtsov's actions, judging by their results, were not at all directed against Putin. But then all of his emotional criticisms addressed to the President, mysterious trips to Kiev, contacts with overseas partners and their proteges was only a smokescreen. The real activities of Boris Nemtsov were carried out under the opposite ideological banner. And his true goals look in a completely different light:

1. Discrediting the Russian opposition.

2. Embedding in the midst of the Kiev junta, which led to the failure of the American mission in Ukraine.

There may only be one conclusion: the staunch opposition leader Boris Nemtsov actually was an agent and an informer of the Kremlin.

His murder was not a sacrifice to accuse Putin, although, of course, our "friends" will not miss such an opportunity. This is not to scare the poorly performing liberals, although the murder must play this role as well. After several failures in Ukraine and in the activities of the fifth column, the foreign intelligence agencies finally found the "mole" and realized that Nemtsov actually worked for the Kremlin, passing back information directly from the camp of the enemy and preventing provocations.

The inglorious end of the ATO, the success of Minsk, the failure of the Russian Maidan - is largely to his credit. The stupid behavior of Ukrainian generals is explained not only by their incompetence, but also by the false information about Russian intentions supplied to them. To supply them with fakes of such level could only be done by a prominent Russian politician, whom the junta fully trusted. And when our American competitors learned about it, of course, they were furious and brutally murdered the agent under their nose, who was one of the most true friends of Putin.

Now it is obvious why for a leading role of a seasoned opposition leader was nominated such a safe figure, without a political weight. Most likely, Nemtsov quite a long time ago was just slipped to the fifth column and the Western and American intelligence agencies, standing behind it. And embedded him in terms of his "proximity to the Emperor". That is, the game was not double, but triple. Of course, it went on for quite a long time. And, of course, even the closest people were not aware of it.

The immediate cause of the murder - the involvement of Nemtsov in the next provocation. His proximity to the government showed the enemy how to use him to strike at the heart of the Kremlin. The ideological basis of the next plot was a disagreement of quite high-ranking figures with the Russian foreign policy course and the resulting inevitable economic reforms. Not everyone has unconditionally accepted import substitution, the apparent pivot to the state control and a return to some socialist principles of the social structure. However, Nemtsov, according to his relatives, was in principle against any radical solutions and bloody massacres. He was trying to prevent another, clearly failed provocation, dissuading his liberal colleagues. This caused suspicion from his curators, a thorough investigation and ruthless elimination.

Nemtsov was killed on the background of the Kremlin towers, in order to first, show that he was outed, and secondly, to demonstrate that the next one may be someone behind the Kremlin walls.

The genuine sorrow and indignation of the Russian authorities is clear - they know who really was Nemtsov and why he died. The loss of such a devoted colleague, especially associated with the most significant projects of the enemy, in such a dangerous time is irreplaceable. The cries of the Kiev junta are understandable: the puppets will not be notified of the master's affairs.

This article is largely inspired by the need to rehabilitate the good name of Boris Nemtsov. Often for truth and honesty you have to pay the highest price - life. Unfortunately, in such cases, only death breaks the veil of mystery and remains the only argument in favor of the truth, but not always.

Yeah it seems a likely explanation he was killed because of feeding Poroshenko false information re Russia in Ukraine, contributing to Ukrainian defeat in Novorossia. But I would think it was more likely that Ukrainian agents were behind it rather than CIA. Peppering someone from a car doesn't sound like CIA...

yes the op was quite unprofessional and appears quite amateurish by CIA standards so a Poroshenko op would look like this I would think.

Fascinating article, in NY Times, Boris Nemtsov wrote about Vladimir Putin 5 days after Jeltsin retired:

Vladimir Putin has seamlessly replaced Boris Yeltsin as leader of Russia, moving quickly to take advantage of his high approval ratings and his party's bolstered support in parliament. This is quite an accomplishment for a government that lacked a popular mandate only a month ago.
Yet many in the United States have expressed doubts about Russia's new acting president.
For one, it has been widely noted that Mr. Putin, a former K.G.B. officer, was a virtual unknown until Mr. Yeltsin made him his prime minister in August and that his Unity Party did not even exist then. The truth is, being an unknown is not only a distinct political advantage in Russia, it was a necessity for Mr. Putin, who had to amass credible popular support in a political culture tarred by cynicism and disillusionment. He neither made nor carried out government policies in the last few years, so he wasn't responsible for any of the mistakes.
Some critics have questioned Mr. Putin's commitment to democracy. True, he is no liberal democrat, domestically or internationally. Under his leadership Russia will not become France. The government will, however, reflect the Russian people's desire for a strong state, a functioning economy, and an end to tolerance for robber barons -- in short, a ''ruble stops here'' attitude. Russia could do considerably worse than have a leader with an unwavering commitment to the national interest.
And it is difficult to see how to do better.
Russia's neighbors grasp the importance of this point. The other former Soviet republics lauded Mr. Putin's appointment, mostly because of the pragmatism he demonstrated when serving as secretary of Russia's security council. His reaction to the formation of the ''counter-Russia'' alliance of Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova was to state that Russia should craft a regional policy palatable to its neighbors.
In addition, Mr. Putin's vocal support for a free-market economy boosted the prospects of reform candidates in the parliamentary elections last month and provided a firm footing for meaningful economic reform to be passed this year.
The reformers are back. Given that the Communists' support comes overwhelmingly from those over the age of 50, the party's clout will diminish with each passing year. December's elections were undoubtedly the last in which the Communists will receive a plurality.
At the same time, a new middle class led by small- and medium-sized business owners is beginning to assert itself. And Russia is finally developing a political system that can begin to shape the direction of change instead of simply damming its tide.
A framework for real market democracy -- property rights especially -- can now be put in place, making entrepreneurialism less expensive and therefore less beholden to the oligarchs who held far too much sway under Mr. Yeltsin.

This maturation should gradually continue, eventually leading to stable parties with consistent platforms, a system of checks and balances and a real separation of powers.
Yes I would say he was a friend of Putin, probably playing a roll as controlled opposition, taking US money for it...
