'White History Month' sign stirs up Flemington

Jim Boggess, proprietor of Jimbo's Deli on Main at 22 Main St., says, "No matter what you are -- Muslim, Jewish, black, white, gay, straight -- you should be proud of what you are. I shouldn't have to feel bad about being white."


But a neighbor and former customer, Bhakti Curtis, who is bi-racial, doesn't accept that. He said the sign, is "mocking Black History Month," especially the way the T was crossed in "WHITE." The cross piece was not right at the top, it was lower down, in a style used by the Ku Klux Klan and other white-power groups, Curtis said. That cross piece of the T has since been broadened to make it a more traditional, if top-heavy, capital T.

On March 3, Curtis saw the sign, told Boggess it offended him, but got no satisfaction. So he filed a complaint with the Flemington police. Detective Sgt. William Svard said Cpl. Louis Hribik's report indicates that Curtis said the sign is "racist," that he felt harassed by it and wanted to know what would be done about it.

RE: maybe whites should have thought twice before condoning slavery. I see no difference between those back then and today who didnt/dont see anything wrong with accepting too many immigrants in the first place because they didnt want to work for low wages. It is like in the early 90s, people were happy that chinese could work for 2 bucks/hr... what will the outcome be?

as I see it, it is laziness at the core of the issue, and also thinking that some other races will/can do dirtier jobs.... chicken are coming back home to roost.

at some point, we ALL will have to help each others to end the system matrix we are caught in ... OR that will be it. So I dont see how adding another layer of conflicts might be a solution, but sure the apocalyse prophecy could be a long term one.

They are the masters of chaos and therefore know how to trigger rage and despair, so going into that direction is digging us into a deeper hole. 2000 years that the jews are blamed and things have gone bad to worse... why?

Why is it so dire to so many that the world/society must go on? For what? I'm from the school of thought that if you leave a problem alone long enough, it will fix itself. Society will end, and maybe mankind with it...why does it matter for short spec of time? Eternity awaits us!

it is a race against time... and the clock is dangerously ticking but I think that a critical mass must be reached, if/when that happens... my guess would be at least 25% of population.

there is no "group think/fight" that can fix this... but one individual at the time. The individual will never make up for the group, thats why all revolutions have failed.

it'd be interesting to know about the % of population that was against slavery when the import started in america...
