... and if it gives you guys a laugh, what the heck ?!
So AR ammo became available again, got a box of 100 5.56x45 American Eagles.
Had a new rifle, wanted to test fire it.
So, what do you do ? What I did was grab a 2x4, put it on the concrete floor,
and FIRE.
5 bullets.
Into the floor. Pictures to prove it.
Like a fvcking Newb Idiot.
And so, what did I learn ?
A. The 5.56x45 is a powerful bullet.
B. Wood does not stop bullets. Well, maybe 12 inches of wood.
Got a 2 hour lesson scheduled for tomorrow. :)
Should we video-tape it ? ... could be like stand-up comedy.
Glad I could laugh about this fvck-up.

Maybe a lesson learned for you, and thank the gods the bullets stopped, and did not ricochet on you.
Always know where the bullet is going and have a backstop strong enough to catch it.
And yes seeing this post.
Gundriller go to school and take notes and heed of what you learn.
You may live longer overall if you do!

I'm tempted to turn digging up the cement into a project, and trying to pull out each of the 5 slugs.
Penetration tests into different materials would be interesting.

Looks like I was off by 2 inches.
Looking at it now, it's like what was I thinking ?!
On the other hand, I now have a much better Feeling for how powerful a 5.56 x 45 is. Really a very impressive 'little' bullet.
and now i get to do a little cement work.

Saw a video of defensive places, behind a car was bad, behind cinderblock was as bad. My wife always wondered why the USi houses were made of wood and hollow block (cinderblock). In the Phil they fill the cinderblock with rebar and concrete...

Yea, those pesky holes and craters are a eyesore to be avoided!
Especially if one considers the oops factor ! ;D
Good luck in the contest!

you mean the Darwin Award contest ?
i think i might have earned a nomination, but since i didn't hit a gas line, it worked out. :)
maybe i will start my career as a forensic technician (like Dexter) by digging out the slugs.
if I had a lot of money to spend on saw time, i might pay someone to dig up my garage
floor, cut out the section with the slugs, and make a conventional (though admittedly large)
polished sample - right through the center of the bullets.
be cool artwork.
