Network theory sheds new light on origins of consciousness
Sunday 15th March 2015
Where in your brain do you exist? Is your awareness of the world around you and of yourself as an individual the result of specific, focused changes in your brain, or does that awareness come from a broad network of neural activity? How does your brain produce awareness?
Vanderbilt University researchers took a significant step toward answering these longstanding questions with a recent brain imaging study, in which they discovered global changes in how brain areas communicate with one another during awareness. Their findings, which were published March 9 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, challenge previous theories that hypothesized much more restricted changes were responsible for producing awareness.’
"Identifying the fingerprints of consciousness in humans would be a significant advancement for basic and medical research, let alone its philosophical implications on the underpinnings of the human experience," said René Marois, professor and chair of psychology at Vanderbilt University and senior author of the study. "Many of the cognitive deficits observed in various neurological diseases may ultimately stem from changes in how information is communicated throughout the brain."
Using graph theory, a branch of mathematics concerned with explaining the interactive links between members of a complex network, such as social networks or flight routes, the researchers aimed to characterize how connections between the various parts of the brain were related to awareness.
"With graph theory, one can ask questions about how efficiently the transportation networks in the United States and Europe are connected via transportation hubs like LaGuardia Airport in New York," Douglass Godwin, graduate student and lead author on the research, said. "We can ask those same questions about brain networks and hubs of neural communication."
Modern theories of the neural basis of consciousness fall generally into two camps: focal and global. Focal theories contend there are specific areas of the brain that are critical for generating consciousness, while global theories argue consciousness arises from large-scale brain changes in activity. This study applied graph theory analysis to adjudicate between these theories........................

The anger trap
march 16
by Zen Gardner
We’re all pissed off in some form or another. No question. No one can sit idly by with any level of consciousness and not be ticked off by the insanity, inequities and atrocities going on around us. That’s righteous anger and there’s nothing wrong with it.
But we must keep anger in its place. The general populace is being set up and baited for violent response.
All they’re waiting for is a justification to herd the unsuspecting flock right into their tightfisted fascist paradigm as the police state takes shape around us.
Don’t fall for the trap.
An Old Trick at Work
Induced passions make people easily manipulated. When we fear or act in anger we are not fully conscious nor fully empowered. Our vision is impaired and our reasoning seriously tainted. Anger is akin to fear, and the ability to manipulate those acting in anger and fear is very similar.
Dr. William Sargant, a psychiatrist with the illuminist Tavistock Institute, wrote in his 1957 book, The Battle For The Mind:
“Various types of belief can be implanted in people after brain function has been deliberately disturbed by accidentally or deliberately induced fear, anger, or excitement. Of the results caused by such disturbances the most common one is temporarily impaired judgment and heightened suggestibility. Its various group manifestations are sometimes classed under the heading of “herd instinct”, and appear most spectacularly in wartime, during severe epidemics, and all similar periods of common danger, which increase anxiety and so individual and mass suggestibility.” Source............ more

Conformity Starts Earlier than You Might Expect
Wednesday 18th March 2015
‘The human mind easily adapts and conforms to ideas, behaviors and the environment around it, often as a means of fitting in and surviving. Most people are content to follow along with what others are doing, even if it transforms them to the point that they do not recognize themselves. Over time, one’s convictions morph to what is widely acceptable in society, destructive acts are deemed constructive and necessary, succumbing to authority is considered necessary, and blurring the lines of morality becomes the norm.
Once the mind is programmed, it often runs on autopilot. It is up to the individual to recognize that their behavior is self-destructive, perhaps not physically but psychologically, and that it may be detrimental to others, as well as society or the Earth as a whole.
The process of recognition, followed by non-conformity, would usually occur once a person entered adulthood. Sadly, in today’s world, adults often cling to childish behaviors and eccentricities, thus delaying the process of self-evaluation and personal evolution further and further into their lives.’
................ The human desire to conform seems to be natural, or at least it develops at a very early age. It lessens exclusion and ridicule during the early years and, often, results in a form of stability and social comfort during early adulthood. Yet, it also means that we are easily swayed to follow the majority, even if the majority is being influenced through heavy media programming and corporatized political system into negative thought, destructive habits, blind submission to authority, and consumerism.
“The broad message to young people nowadays is to conform and submit to norms and phony authority rather than to develop personal integrity, personal liberty and true happiness. Society beckons our youth to imitate others, to compete with others for no end, to pick a team and stay with them till the bitter end, and to neglect the most important virtues in life like spirituality, intellect and compassion.” ~ Dylan Charles, Editor, WakingTimes.com
It is easy to feed the human desire for conformity, therefore it will take effort to recognize unproductive behaviors. Non-conformity may seem outlandish to our peers but it will allow your true self to pursue a path in life that feeds another natural instinct – the pursuit of happiness..............

money along with a reward/barter based system must be abolished... or technology will just doom 80-85% of mankind, that is why the death cult has no other choice to kill us anyway. Money was/is a (false) premise to start with, which technology was/is bound to terminate in due time. Every paradigm is limited in time, only lasts while it can. The article below is biased in the sense that the job market and consumerist trends are linked... very few jobs = corporate implosion

Robert Reich: In Our Horrifying Future, Very Few People Will Have Work or Make Money
Think you're safe because you're a professional? Think again.
‘It’s now possible to sell a new product to hundreds of millions of people without needing many, if any, workers to produce or distribute it..... The ratio of producers to customers continues to plummet. When Facebook purchased “WhatsApp” (the messaging app) for $19 billion last year, WhatsApp had 55 employees serving 450 million customers.’
