A 9-year-old boy got the surprise of a lifetime this weekend when a postcard arrived from his late father — two years after his death.

Joseph Torrez, a commander in the Navy, died in 2013 of a rare brain disorder called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Just wondering if this guy spent some time in England eating the beef.

At one time it was said if a patient with mad cow was ever discovered in a hospital they would have to burn the hospital down. Something having to do with the durability of prions.

You got me curious so I looked for an obit. Here is what I found. He evidently served as XO on the Mustin a year after his 'death'. Unless there are two Commander Joseph Torres in the Navy. I know on TV they said he had two degrees from MIT while the Navy article does not mention this. Photos appear to be similar to me. The Navy article is about a Torres though rather than Torrez. The Torres guy was raised in San Diego and Torrez is said in the original article to have a home in San Diego.
