I like it. On the obverse I take it that's Noah's arc with Mt. Ararat in the background?

I think so. There's a little mountain and a big one, also it's in the bible that noah's arc landed on the moutains. Anyway, beautiful coin thanks for sharing.

edit: also check out the coat of arms for Armenia on the reverse. In the very center, that's Mt. Ararat with noah's arc sitting on top of it.
Very cool. I think that is one of the neatest silver coins I've seen actually.

Today it is the 100th anniversary of the start of the Armenian genocide 24/3-1915. Turkey decided to commemorate today, the land battle of Gallipoli, where the Ottoman troops managed to repell the troops of the Brittish empire, but it actually occurred on the 22/3-1915.
100 years passed and still silly little games are played to avoid owing up to what ancestors did...

Well, I got a few of these coins from Provident and wow, beautiful coins! I wish I ordered more. I might order one of the larger ones 5 or 10 oz in the future. Thanks for starting this thread.

How the memory of war affects public attitude is a fascinating thing. Attitudes and prejudices lingering from the American Civil War were still encountered in my youth less than 100 years later. Today I almost never detect it. Maybe it takes 150 years to get over a war.

I bought a whole case of these (500). It wasn't for "kicks" or "giggles" either it was because I appreciate the only government in the wold offering an official bullion coin with a Biblical theme!
I give them out as gifts and as keep some, everyone loves them and appreciates them.
What's the alternative? Some stupid woman which is supposed to symbolize "Liberty"? What a joke!

The History of the Armenian Church Who brought Christianity to Armenia?

Christianity became the national religion in 301 A.D.
Why is there an Armenian presence in Jerusalem?
Armenia is one of the oldest Christian countries, so for centuries its monks and nuns have played an important part in maintaining many special sites in the Holy Land. The Armenian presence in Palestine is attested from as early as the 4th century. There were also inscriptions, artwork and graffiti in Armenian from as early as the 5th century. Over the centuries, the Armenians founded more than 70 monasteries and presently are serving as the guardians of the Holy Sites. The Armenian Quarter covers 1/5 of the old city of Jerusalem and the Armenian Patriarchate is in charge of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher with the Greeks and Latins.
