Possible gas leak on 2nd Avenue & 7th Street causes explosion


Two more were taken to the burn unit at New York-Presbyterian Hospital Cornell with what officials called serious burns.
Traffic was halted as hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze at 121 Second Ave. near Seventh St. and tried to keep it from spreading.
Investigators suspect the 3:20 p.m. blast was caused by a gas leak at the Sushi Park restaurant on the ground floor.

Officials knocked down early reports of people being trapped inside the building.
Meanwhile, panicked neighbors tweeted photos showing smoke spilling out of the building, which houses a Japanese restaurant on the ground floor and apartments above.
