I had a molar removed on Friday. I shouldn't say pulled because I was in the chair for more than an hour and he tried to pull it but it wouldn't budge. He proceeded to cut it out with his drill. It was an ordeal to say the least. The roots were curled and barbed. I think he ended up drilling out a lot of bone. Anyway, lots of pain now. Medicated with codeine but developed a migraine that has lasted for 24 hours. Finally went away this morning and I am a little shy to take more codeine. My jaw still hurts though. I just wonder how much bone he removed and how long it will take to heal. anyone here been through this?

No.
I'd recommend using clove oil to deal with the pain. Another trick is to make a special activated charcoal recipe:
These are direct quotes: "Mix 3 tablespoons charcoal,1/2 teaspoon clove oil, 1/3 teaspoon cayenne pepper, ½ teaspoon olive oil (enough to make a paste), and 1 teaspoon of golden seal. He states: “ This remedy is strictly for pain in the jaw or tooth pain. Pack this around the tooth that is giving you problems. If you can cover the tooth up it will generate heat. That will remove the pain faster than any toothache remedy. Try it. You will feel the heat and you can go wash your mouth out. If you are in a lot of pain the heat is comforting. The pain of the poultice drawing is less than the throbbing of the toothache.[The mixture] should be quite thick, about the consistency of natural peanut butter. You want to be able to mould it around the tooth, so that it will stick.”
NOTE: Make sure you use Food Grade, powdered Activated Charcoal for this. Usually the stuff in capsules or sold as "Food Grade" will work fine. Also you can do this without the golden seal, but it doesn't work as good.

You can also put some clove oil on a q-tip and brush it onto the sore part and reduce pain. Don't swallow by the way if you can.

A cheap bite-wing x-ray next time you are in the office will tell you.

Unfortunately Woodman can't wrap it around the tooth. Might help putting it in the area where the tooth was removed.
Call the office tomorrow and ask for a different pain med, you might have an allergy to whatever is in that codeine.
I don't know your age but if I guessed the bone regrowth process will take at minimum 6 months. Most likely will be more than a year before it starts to fill in like it should. I have a couple comprehensive links you can read about teeth if you want them.

With toothpaste or toothpowder?
Vegetable Glycerin in toothpaste coats the tooth and prevents natural remineralization.

I use 1 drop of oregano oil, stuff is very strong. No cavaties or problems in many many years. I have a cracked molar that is 80% better now than a year ago. Not sure how long until it's 100% but I do not test it with popcorn or anything. Got it from a bone in a burger, at the time I went in to see if I chipped it and he told me it was cracked. Said I only have 2 choices, a crown or to have it pulled.

Oregano Oil is good for anti-bacterial/viral, but not no much about reducing pain. This chart may help:

Oh no, there is NO WAY I would use this for pain! Was replying to the Vegetable Glycerin toothpaste part.
You have a link to that chart? I couldn't find it.
