There is simply no way to fully articulate how monumental this is.

NBC News (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/university-mississippi-student-indicted-noose-james-meredith-statue-n331646):

A former University of Mississippi student was indicted Friday on federal civil rights charges for allegedly hanging a rope and a flag featuring the Confederate battle flag around the neck of a statue of James Meredith, the university’s first black student.

Graeme Phillip Harris was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of conspiracy to violate civil rights and using a threat of force to intimidate African American students because of their race or color, the Department of Justice said.

The rope and an old version of the Georgia state flag, which displays the crossed bars and stars used as a battle flag by the South during the Civil War, was placed around the neck of the statue in the early morning hours of Feb. 16, 2014. Meredith was the first black student after the university was desegregated in 1962.
“This shameful and ignorant act is an insult to all Americans and a violation of our most strongly-held values,” U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said in a statement. “No one should ever be made to feel threatened or intimidated because of what they look like or who they are.”

Yes, I realize this is not actually “speech,” but in legal terminology, an artistic display with a political message is exactly the same as political speech. They have specifically chosen this particular incident to begin the legal war on free speech because it is not obvious or known to most people that this type of a display is classified exactly the same as speech.

They have been searching for just such a situation as this to set the precedent. It is exactly – exactly – what they needed.

If the student was not allowed to touch the statue, then he would have been charged with trespassing or vandalism. Instead, he is being charged with a federal hate crime for the presentation of a political message.
This is, absolutely, the beginning of the end. And this must be our cause, because we must not lose our speech.

I will be writing more about this in the near future. I personally need some time to process it and to read more about exactly what is going on. It is possible I am missing something, but I don’t think so.

The student faces up to 11 years in prison for conspiracy to violate civil rights and using a threat of force to intimidate African-American students. He has reportedly transferred to a new school in Georgia

Harris, who is white, was an Ole Miss student when the noose was left on the statue.
It wasn't immediately clear whether Harris had an attorney to contact for comment on his behalf.
University spokesman Danny Blanton said Friday that Harris is no longer enrolled and that university officials turned the case over to federal prosecutors and deferred to their judgment..
Harris has transferred to University of North Georgia – Oconee Campus, according to the Daily Mississippian (http://thedmonline.com/release-from-department-of-justice-ole-miss-student-indicted/).
He is free on bond, though his movement is restricted to areas of Georgia and Mississippi.
James Meredith, who integrated the University of Mississippi under federal protection a half-century ago, says it's a shame that state authorities deferred to the federal government to bring charges.
Mr Meredith, who is 81 and lives in Jackson, said state authorities should have pursed charges.
'What it is saying is that the only possible justice for a black in the state of Mississippi is the federal government and if there's anything that we don't need it's that being our only means of expecting justice,' Mr Meredith said in a phone interview Friday.
'I think Mississippi is better than that. If it's not better than that, it should be made better than that.'
The Lafayette County district attorney said in 2014 that state charges wouldn't be filed because no state laws were broken.
Mississippi's hate crime law requires an underlying crime for additional charges. Because the statute wasn't marred or broken, prosecutors said typical vandalism charges didn't apply.

Murderers and Rapists get less time than 11 years typically. Remember kids, Racism™ is the worst crime in the world. It's against some law....ummm somewhere.

It is and will be used to end the 1st Amendment.

Most stand-up comedians nowadays say worse things than that. I wonder when they'll all start getting arrested too?

it's typical of US gov laws.

vague-ness in the law allows them to use 'discretion'.

that is, to DO WHAT THE FVCK THEY WANT, to who they want.

"language meant to intimidate" ... well, what about the

super high mileage terms like "Fvck You". If I could only get
a penny for every time this phrase was used.

Is it too late to apply for a royalty on swear words or does Jew-Wood
have that action locked up ?

OK, once I worked with a guy for whom that was basically a way of saying "Good Morning".

but most of the time, "Fvck You" is "language meant to intimidate".

BUT SINCE THEY'RE NOT GOING TO ARREST EVERY BODY for saying,

"Fvck You, Obama"

gives them legal room. they like wiggle room.

sort of like the wiggle room that says that American cops can toss flash-bangs
into cribs with real live human babies - with impunity.

the US gov & law enforcement, they like wiggle room in interpretation.

If he has any half assed attorney this should get bounced right back into the State court level.
