I was walking by and along a local canal yesterday. They cover the entire Magic Valley, turning the desert green. They were completely full of water, higher than I've ever seen, and there were wildflowers everywhere around the banks. A sea of green, purple, and yellow. Really beautiful stuff.

Most of the water that services the Magic Valley and the Treasure Valley (Boise) comes from Yellowstone, which is the Snake River. The Snake River is the lifeblood of Southern Idaho. We also have a crap load of Hydroelectric Dams which generate a ton of cheap, and renewable electricity. My electric bill here is 25% that of Southern California.

It's funny, I lived next to the beach and literally worked on the waterfront a long time but only ever had sand in between my toes like 6 times in my life. Just never liked the Ocean.

If I didn't love the water, and the ocean, I would not live in CA. I think your move to Idaho was a good one, for you.

Me, the ocean and being on the water is who I am. I'm on the water more than I'm on land. I'm surrounded by it. I lived in Colorado for several years and really enjoyed it, but being near the ocean is where home is for me, personally. I do think you've got some great fly fishing rivers up there. I encourage you to check that out. :)

The number of beach closures and advisories nationwide due to polluted water jumped last year to its second-highest level in two decades, up 29% from the year before, a new report says.In California, closures and advisories nearly doubled in 2010, and the number of beach water tests that exceeded state health standards rose to 11% from 9% the year before, according to an annual report (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/greenspace/2011/06/www.nrdc.org/beaches) released Wednesday by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The study indicates “the problems that we have in this country with beach water contamination in general are not getting better,” said Noah Garrison, an attorney for the environmental group...

I'm actually preparing to go hunting later this year my first time with a friend who is going to take me. I got my hunting certification not long ago. Hopefully that actually happens and I can break being a city boy. I went fishing a lot in Mammoth, California a lot when I was little, but never fully enjoyed it. I may take it up eventually though. I'd rather hunt waterfowl with a shotgun, that sounds extremely awesome.

One step at a time for me, but I'm doing more than anyone else in my family would dream of.

I've seen both pristine and filthy beaches like in the pictures Jewboo posted.

I remember when I was a kid I was swimming in the Ocean on a beach on Catalina island. The water looked fine, and so I got in, and 20 minutes later I suddenly found trash all around me. It totally grossed me out and probably was one of the things that made me not like the Ocean. I don't know how tides work but I think the tides brought in a lot of filth, or something.

The beaches along the resorts I worked at were all seemingly pristine though. Those were much more wealthy areas too.

Book has a point. We are over populated here in CA, maybe if people saw what our beaches looked like, they would not want to move here. The real estate prices are insane in CA, and it's because of demand.

Everyone should move to Idaho.

The message was that Idaho doesn't have a water problem like California does. I know you get triggered by Jewboo. I genuinely think he's a got a good message, but has a mean way of communicating (trolling.) The main reason we don't have a problem is since our population is so low. Our state is broken into two halves, the South, where most people live, which is high desert, and the North, which is mountains/forest which has a ton of rain/snowfall. The population there is much lower, if you exclude Coeur D'alene.

Trolling is a different way to convince people of things. It works on some people, and some people it angers. It's not meant for you (which it just angers you.) I used to troll very heavily myself so I -get- it. I can see Jewboo's intentions are good. Basically don't take things so seriously. :)

I'm not angered at all. Actually Book is doing me personally a favor. I'm living in a place that's unknown mostly, in CA, a slice of Heaven undiscovered by the masses. It helps me when folks send the message that CA sucks, we don't need a bunch of liberals here screwing things up and people should just stay out.

I've realized, the more people that bash CA, the better off we are here. We don't get the good hardworking conservatives here anyway, that's our problem. If everyone thinks CA is great, we get the communists coming in for a free ride.

For some reason, CA seems to get better and better. The more bad stuff posted about our state seems to distract the easily swayed free loaders and hopefully they will see Idaho as the next best thing. :) Don't get pissed at me when you have the same problems as CA does, up there.

I was born in San Francisco and was in the Sea Scouts at Coyote Point (https://parks.smcgov.org/coyote-point-marina). I can remember overnight camping ON the clean white sand at Sunset Beach as a small boy around 1957-1960. My brothers used to catch crabs off Fisherman's Wharf (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisherman%27s_Wharf,_San_Francisco) using a gizmo they made out of wire clothes hangers. I remember being at the Grunion (http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/Education/Public_Programs/Outdoor_Adventures/Grunion_Runs/grunion.jpg) runs in moonlight. Back then California was heaven.

Most of the Freeloaders are going to Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Texas. A lot went to Nevada, but the immigration there has basically halted since Las Vegas is turning bust. I have Leftist family members who talk about leaving California, and go to the states I just mentioned. and I make sure to steer them clear of Idaho. My family thinks Idaho is a bunch of Nazis and Potatoes. (https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Idaho) Ship them to Oregon so they can wallow in the shit they create with their Dildonomics.

Navy gave us a surplus 40 footer that wasn't anywhere near as nice as the above photo. SSS Makai is over on the East Bay. Our skipper was a perpetual (usually passed out) drunk and his son supplied us with the beer. First time I ever got drunk was on board during an overnight-er under the Carquinez Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carquinez_Bridge).

Exactly I was in Viet Nam in 1992 and Laos in 1997, both nominally hard core communist one party states. I would say though these are the places I have experienced true free market economy. In Laos I was told by fellow travelers that you could go to the local market and buy a shopping bag full of marijuana for a dollar or so. Similar experiences as I travelled through Eastern Europe in the early 90's. I think you only experience freedom for a short while during the collapse of dictatorship in general...

Shoshone Falls (/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English)ʃ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)oʊ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)ˈ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)ʃ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)oʊ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)n (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Key)/ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English)) is a waterfall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterfall) on the Snake River (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snake_River) in southern Idaho, located approximately five miles (8 km) east of the city of Twin Falls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Falls,_Idaho). Sometimes called the "Niagara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls) of the West," Shoshone Falls is 212 feet (65 m) high—45 feet (14 m) higher than Niagara Falls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls)—and flows over a rim 1,000 feet (300 m) wide.

A park overlooking the waterfall is owned and operated by the City of Twin Falls. Shoshone Falls is best viewed in the spring, as diversion of the Snake River for irrigation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irrigation) and hydroelectricity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydroelectricity) generation often significantly diminishes water levels in the late summer and fall.

In celebration of American Craft Beer Week, brewers from across Idaho gathered in Boise at Payette Brewing to collaborate on Idaho Sage Pale Ale, a special brew to be released May 14th. As in many states, Idaho brewers are separated by great distances and don’t have the many opportunities to get together beyond festivals and regular business. The collaboration was more than just a reason to get together and brew a great beer – a portion of the proceeds will be used to help establish the Idaho Brewers Guild. The guild, in its planning stages, wants to unify all brewers in the state, increase the awareness of craft beer and act as an advocate for the brewing community.
