Meet Lucy and Maria. Lucy, 18, has white skin, blue eyes, and straight, red hair. Maria, also 18, has brown skin, dark brown eyes, and curly, dark brown hair. They're both gorgeous girls, but no one would say that they look much alike aside from their build. However, Lucy and Maria are sisters. Not only that, they're also twins.

Lucy and Maria are fraternal twins, meaning they came from two different eggs and two different sets of genetics. Their mother, Donna, is of mixed race herself, and so carries genes for both white and black skin. Maria inherited the genetic code for black skin, while Lucy inherited the code for white.
Maria and Lucy come from a mixed-race family in Gloucester, England. Their mom is Jamaican and their dad is white. The parents' three older kids (Jordan, George, and Chynna) naturally reflect both parents' heritages. The parents, Donna and Vince, assumed this would be the case when Donna became pregnant with the twins, their youngest children.
Yet when they were born, their parents couldn't have been more surprised.

The other three kids in the Aylmer family have mixed traits. That entire family is also super cute.

Maria and Lucy are 18, and they say that getting people to believe they are even related, let alone that they are twins, is next to impossible. They say they've even had to produce birth certificates to get friends to believe them.

Today, Lucy and Maria are pursuing their own careers. Lucy is studying art and design at Gloucester College, while Maria is studying law at Cheltenham College.

Maria and Lucy, like any other siblings, remain close while on their individual paths to adulthood. They seem to enjoy telling people about their twin of another race, and are proud of their diverse heritage. Their only regret about their remarkable circumstance? That they could never trick their classmates by swapping places the way other twins in their school could.
