I'm looking at buying some of these, they are really nice looking German silver bars. I like that they have a reeded edge and they come in a cool wooden box too. Anyone have any experience with this kind of silver?

I just bought a handful of these from Apmex, I'll post some pics when I get them. They only come in a mint-provided wooden box if you order them in batches of 100. I didn't get that many, but Apmex also sells the boxes separately so I'll probably pick up one of them at some point.

I guess nobody cares.. Well I bought 60 of the 100 gram bars and received them today; these may be my new favorite way to stack silver. I think I'll work my way up to 100 of these and then focus on getting a full set of the 250 gram bars.

Sheeesh. Nobody stacks silver around here anymore MF, I thought you of all people would've noticed! :p

I love the bars, they are really beautiful, a lot nicer looking than the Perth mint jobs that are in overabundance down here and I like the metric weights.

So you basically bought like 6 kg of Ag! That has to be a record for recent silver purchases on this forum.

Can anyone beat that?

Sorry, I'm in the "avoid selling if you can" mode, and have been for a while. I might have bought an SAE last year, that was about it.

Somehow I don't think I'll ever be in a position to "stack" metals anymore.

Thats really unfortunate BT, may I ask whats changed in your circumstance that you're no longer in a position to stack a little here and there?

I had a close call with about 300 oz of my stack a few weeks ago. I had left it at some friends on mine (for safety) over Christmas and hadn't got around to picking it up (they are up the road from me)

Anyhow, one Saturday afternoon at about 3 pm I get a call from them that they have just been robbed (my heart is friggen racing at this point) I run down there and find shit everywhere, they had been right where my stash had been kept but missed it, they were too busy throwing things on the floor to notice what was under the closest right in form of them. It was a REALLY close call, they made out with like $1000 in cash, but they missed the biggest prize of all! Man am I lucky. I felt really bad for my friends so I gave them some cash for their trouble.

So yeah, I guess I sort of empathize with the 'I'm in the "avoid selling if you can" mode'. Im in the "avoid losing it if you can" mode.

I care... got any pics of them? I'd like to see them next to an Eagle or one ounce bar for comparison.

I am in the basic needs stacking business now. I have been putting money into solar power with battery off grid system. Basic hardware like tools, propane tanks, electrical & plumbing supplies. Household repairs and debt retirement are also at the top.

I hate to say it, but I am a little like Ponce. Got a little stash.

Also, I am not expecting to be around more than a few years, if that long. We will either be at world war or largely nuked and bypassed. A cooking pot will be more valuable than an ounce of silver.

Here's some pics of one of the bars, with a Morgan for reference. I really like the reeded edge, and the face of the bar is really nice, with a matte look in the field, and a proof-like strike at the circle logo.

Well Spect, remember what I wrote a while back?........my dream is to die with all that I have because that would mean that TSHTF never came about and that I never ran out of cash.........and you know I live by what I have and not by what I want.......how much do you need to live by?......the secret of doing good is to have no debt, meaning that your main out source of cash, your home, is all paid for.

I really don't care who ends with what I have at this time.....after all.....I am only the care taker of all that and it was never really mine.

100 grams is 3.215 troy oz, so a bit smaller. Here's a couple pics comparing one with a 3 oz bar and a 5 oz bar:

http://s12.postimg.org/jdsg6h7tp/100g_vs_3_oz.jpg

http://s9.postimg.org/n4rgkzr1r/100g_vs_5_oz.jpg

And they do stack together nicely, like little bricks. They came from the mint individually wrapped and with a serial number (I opened up one to play with and take photos with); here's a few of them stacked:

http://s7.postimg.org/if98wls63/100_g_silver_4.jpg

One more cool thing. Apmex says that if you buy them 100 at a time, you get the wood box from the mint. Well I didn't buy 100, but they went ahead and sent them with the box anyway. Here's what it looks like:

50 x 100 grams = 5000 grams = 160.7 troy ounces. Got them from Apmex, and now that I'm done with the 100 gram bars, I'm going to start stacking the 250 gram bars.

sort of a paradox.

looks like the kind of thing that belongs in a safe.

but, in a safe, space usually comes at a premium.

maybe you'll end up with so many bars that you have to stack them in the safe,
and put the frame outside the safe.

still nice though :)

I haven't updated this thread in a while! Well, over the last 6 months or so, buying a little here and a little there, I managed to get my second box of these bars, this time the 250 gram bars. 45 bars per box, equaling 11,250 grams or appx 362 oz. These are the ones I managed to buy timing nearly perfectly the silver spot low of $13 and change.

Looking back at when I started this thread, it was just over a year ago. So in one year I managed to complete my goal of obtaining both the 100 and 250 gram boxes. Wow!! :o :o ;D
