Fast food giant admits it quietly closed 350 stores in Q1
McDonald’s closed 350 stores in the first three months of 2015 and is planning to close an additional 350 by the end of the year.
The struggling fast food giant recently announced it was closing 350 poorly performing stores this year, but on Wednesday McDonald’s admitted it had closed a previously unannounced 350 stores in the U.S., Japan and China.
“Earlier on Wednesday, McDonald’s reported an 11% decrease in revenue and a 30% drop in profit for the first three months of year, a continuation of its troubles in the last two years as it has struggled to compete with new U.S. competitors, a tough economy in Europe and a food safety scare in Asia,” Fortune reported.
McDonald’s started falling into a steep decline after customers began seeking healthier alternatives, a decline which may prove terminal for the world’s largest fast food chain.
http://conservativepost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/mcdonald_Closed1.jpg (http://conservativepost.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/mcdonald_Closed1.jpg)
“The world is starting to ask what they’re truly eating in their food — and the new conglomerate of natural grocers and restaurants are trailblazing the way into an entirely new economic environment,” Anthony Gucciardi wrote. “In other words: people are simply tired of shoveling garbage into their bodies, and they’re not going to put up with it anymore.”
And price conscious consumers aren’t just limited to McDonald’s nowadays: natural food outlets such as Whole Foods are offering organic foods at the same price as a Big Mac with fries.
“McDonald’s is a huge company, a huge supply chain spread everywhere, and it’s kind of getting nibbled at the margins by all these upscale burger chains, organic places [and] locally sourced food,” Yahoo finance columnist Rick
Newman wrote (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/apr/22/mcdonalds-coca-cola-scrambling-to-connect-with-hea/).

How sad. Time travelers have been coming back in time to visit the most violent battlegrounds in history to observe the great spectacles that once were. Soon it will only be the time travellers who get to see the spectacles at McDonalds.

Yes and no. Independent Franchise has to pay X percent to corporate to cover advertising etc (I don't remember what all it covers). If the % is too low it trickles down to share price corporate can shut under producing stores down.

I feel like I've come full circle.
I remember when McDonald's first got started - it was written up in Fortune, I think, about how a milk-shake salesman, named Ray Croc (memory serves?) had been servicing a fast food joint in California that had that big yellow "M" sign and he got the bright idea of making it go nationwide as a franchise - he got financing from a bunch of jew bankers, bought out the original McDonald's brothers, and started a "training" camp, like a boot camp, for franchise hopefuls who put up the downpayment and became managers of McDonald's joints nationwide. In the beginning, it was the very detailed attention to QUALITY (a long lost concept, by now) by Croc, and his unforgiving attitude towards any candidates who didn't share his extreme point of view about quality, that made his McDonald's chain a big success. He was so extreme about his ingredients that he would contract lettuce and tomatoe suppliers and have the fresh makings for his world renown hamburgers shipped in to each of his franchises.
I can attest personally that when they first started up, their food was excellent, and the price was reasonable. Their milk shakes (Croc's original job) were top notch. Croc was already an older dude (late 50's) and I suppose he died some time back, but, they went downhill to the point that I haven't eaten at a McDonalds in over 20 years.
But, in the beginning, and as long as Croc was in charge, they had top quality everything and such great attention to detail and excellence was obvious.
Full circle - my own USE-BY-DATE has expired, when you wind up back where it all started.

like you I concluded McDonalds disconnected from the food aspect of the restaurant business many years ago. It follows an often repreated process of taking something and then substituting all of the high cost (relative) components for cheaper alternatives and substitutes. Eventually what you have is up to 100% substitution. Nothing or very little of the original product remains. A particular group of people are very adept at this process and they apply it to everything they do.

My first job was McDonalds. If you don't count delivering newspapers. As soon as I turned 15 and a half, to the day when I could legally work, I road my bike down to McDs and put in an application, had an interview, and started working the next day. I was too shy to work the front counter, so they stuffed me in the back making burgers and frying mcnuggets. I was paid 4.25 an hour. I worked my ass off for 6 months and got outstanding reviews enough for a big raise...10 cents. Up to 4.35 an hour.
I then quit. It was either the shitty raise, or seeing a coworker pissing in the bucket of pickles that did it. Can't remember. I then went and got a job at the local gas station for 6.50 an hour, big money then. Plus, I got to pump gas for old ladies and pick up the pretty girls. The girls back then did not respect McD workers. :) That gas station job was a blast though.
edit: somewhere in storage I still have that original McD's apron. I'll have to look for that.

Race to the bottom. That is the death drive of most companies. They compete by finding the cheapest supplies and ingredients so that they can reduce costs. Cheapest almost always is the lowest quality. I see this in many companies. Driven only by $$. They pretend to care about customers but their number one focus is making a profit and surviving in a race-to-the-bottom climate.

How the McDonald’s burger chain became a pioneer for black-owned businesses
There are more than 300 African-American McDonald’s owner-operators.
There are 12 black owner-operators in what McDonald’s calls the SoCal Co-Op, which includes Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Ventura, Riverside and Orange counties. Five of them are second-generation.
Today, Webb Family Enterprises holds 16 McDonalds properties dotting Southern California. Several in the Inland Empire are owned and managed by Webb’s daughter Kiana Webb-Severloh.
The company’s CEO, Don Thompson, is black, and rose through the ranks after joining the company as an electrical engineer in 1990, according to the company’s website. He became the company’s first black CEO in 2012.
-----------
http://fortune.com/2015/02/10/how-mcdonalds-don-thompson-could-have-saved-his-job/
Thompson is being blamed for almost all of the fast-food chain’s troubles: confusing the menu; not letting customers customize enough; not riding the healthy food trend; undermining children’s well-being; flip-flopping on America’s minimum wage debate; adding products that extended wait times; food safety scares abroad, declines in same-store sales.

I stopped into a McD's last week just to look at the prices. $7.99 for a big mac and fries. I was shocked at the price. It's not even inexpensive food anymore. Now, for lunch today I paid $7.99 for burger at the local shop. It was the best burger I think I've ever had, for the same price as McD's. Grass fed free roaming beef, local, local fresh baked bun. All organic fresh local vegetables.
I think this is where McD's blew it. If they are going to make cheap crappy food, it needs to be inexpensive.

Was in a small shopping center last Saturday and I notice the newly remodeled, usually very busy store has no cars parked near it and there was only one car in the drive through. I just thought that very odd looking.
People are learning on the web about what is in the Mcnuggets, odd black plastic strings. The McRibs had such a long list of chemical ingredients that I think they stopped having that. Also there is that picture out there of a Big Mac under glass at room temperature for like ten years and it has not decomposed at all -- still the brightly colored Potemkin hamburger.
I do not do fast food at all anymore because of Leaky Gut Syndrome. I have been watching The Food Summit this week and recently watched Ty Bollinger's The Truth About Cancer series and the overwhelming fact is that processed foods and fast food restaurant food kills you.

I have a regular McD's hamburger that's weathered "well". It's hard as a rock now. This burger is a traveler, I named him Mickey, he's been all over the place now, death valley, the mountains, the coast. Yet to take him surfing but that day may come.
Looks as good as new. Hard as a rock though. No decomposition at all.

Yes, I've noticed that too. The whites leave/move to get away from the blacks, but unfortunately the blacks follow the whites wherever they go with their hands out asking for money. I don't know why that is. If I were a black person, I wouldn't want to ever see a white person. I'd get as far away from white people as I possibly could. Hell, I'd move back to Africa so white cops don't shoot me while I'm stealing or selling drugs. Strange. I wonder why black people keep following white people and asking for money? I mean, it's not like blacks are the laziest, trashiest, dumbest people on the planet or anything like that. Blacks are hard working, well dressed, clean, smart. well educated. There's nothing to dislike about blacks, yet whites keep moving as far away from them as they can, and blacks keep following whites. Very strange.

Diversity Is Strength! It’s Also…The End Of McDonalds?
http://www.vdare.com/articles/diversity-is-strength-its-alsothe-end-of-mcdonalds
McDonald’s shareholders watching their stocks dwindle in value received more bad news Monday, with the archetypal American corporation forced to report sales were down again, especially in the United States [McDonald’s Sales Slump Continues in May (http://abcnews.go.com/Business/wireStory/mcdonalds-sales-slump-continues-31608094), ABC News, June 8, 2015]. Of course, this is the last time shareholders will enjoy the questionable benefit of knowing how poorly their company is performing, as McDonald’s will no longer report its monthly sales figures [McDonald’s US sales fall more than expected in May (http://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-comp-store-sales-may-2015-6), by Akin Oyedele, Business Insider, June 8, 2015]. While corporate executives make vague promises about recovery, McDonald’s needs something more than a change in leadership or a new franchise model—it is failing because it put diversity over profitability, with unsafe restaurants located in dangerous neighborhoods, and values multiculturalism above competence.
Thus, even as executives sheepishly admit their declining sales, McDonald’s continues to generate headlines for playing host to an endless series of beatings and assaults.
Several “teens” were recently charged for the gang beating of a 43 year old man who had tried to break up a fight in a Brooklyn McDonald’s. The attack, which featured a mob screaming “Kill him right now!” was caught on video (http://www.vdare.com/posts/do-not-act-the-good-samaritan-to-blacks-in-apparent-distress-and-other-good-advice) and has created international headlines [NYPD cops arrest 2 teens in Brooklyn McDonald’s brawl, (http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/nyc-crime/nypd-cops-arrest-2-teens-brooklyn-mcdonald-brawl-article-1.2225326)by Thomas Tracy, Andy Mai, and Ben Kochman, May 17, 2015]. Luckily, the victim survived, but with severe injuries.
Two suspects are in custody inflicting severe head trauma on an unconscious man after a recent beating at a McDonald’s in Hoboken, NJ [Hoboken McDonald’s Beating: Police Arrest Two Suspects (http://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/hoboken-mcdonalds-beating-police-arrest-two-suspects-0), by Eric Kiefer, Patch, June 1, 2015]
In late April, a man was arrested for threatening people at a Nashville, TN McDonald’s with a machete [1 arrested for threatening man with machete at Nashville McDonald’s (http://wkrn.com/2015/04/30/machete-wielding-man-arrested-after-attack-at-nashville-mcdonalds/), News 2 Nashville, April 30, 2015].
And these are only some of the recent stories. Videos of people being beaten (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=beating+McDonald%E2%80%99s+), robbed (https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=robbery+McDonald%E2%80%99s+), or threatened at McDonald’s (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2015/03/11/mcdonalds-racist-employees-threatened/70141820/) are almost as ubiquitous on YouTube as someone screaming “Worldstar (http://www.vdare.com/posts/stock-tip-as-obama-huddles-with-sharpton-invest-in-world-star-hip-hop)!” before someone is knocked unconscious.
Many of these cases (http://6abc.com/news/police-man-tired-of-waiting-threatened-mcdonalds-workers-with-gun/449448/) are simply part of the endless wave of black-on-black (http://www.vdare.com/posts/washington-post-on-black-on-white-atrocity) violence gripping formerly First World American cities. As such, these crimes are utterly ignored (http://www.vdare.com/posts/sailer-my-review-of-ghettoside-a-true-story-of-murder-in-america).
But in recent years two cases in particular have generated headlines—both group attacks of blacks against whites.
In April 2011, Chrissy Lee Polis was beaten by two black women so severely that she suffered a seizure.
Normally, of course, such a crime would be ignored, even though it was captured on video. However, because Polis was a “transgender (http://www.vdare.com/?s=transgender+&submit=Search)woman,” the Main Stream Media covered it extensively [Woman sentenced to prison for beating transgender woman in McDonald’s (http://jezebel.com/5840016/woman-sentenced-to-prison-for-beating-transgender-woman-in-mcdonalds), by Margaret Hartmann, Jezebel, September 13, 2011].
In 2014, Denton James Ward and Lauren Bailey Crisp died after an attack by a black mob at a McDonald’s in College Station near Texas A&M.
These deaths did not receive a large amount of MSM coverage because of the obvious PC inhibitions surrounding black on white crime (http://www.vdare.com/posts/three-media-sources-and-none-tells-the-truth-about-a-black-on-white-hate-crime-but-the-truth-c). The McDonald’s was known as a trouble spot, with hundreds of black males milling about, and getting into fights. David Paulin of The American Thinker reported,
A police officer arriving at the scene, five minutes later, grabbed his AR-15 assault rifle when he stepped out of his patrol car, fearing he was amid a full-blown riot. It was, he recalled, like “scenes that we have seen multiple times at that McDonald’s.”
[Beaten to death at McDonald’s (http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2014/08/beaten_to_death_at_mcdonalds.html), August 21, 2014]
Ward and Crisp were pronounced dead at the scene after an accident when a friend ran a red light trying to get Ward to a hospital. In the resulting lawsuit, lawyers for Ward’s family argued he died as a result of the beating. McDonald’s was ordered to pay $27 million to the two families [McDonald’s ordered to pay $27 million of Flower Mountain teen, friend following beating and fatal car wreck (http://bizbeatblog.dallasnews.com/2014/07/mcdonalds-ordered-to-pay-27-million-to-family-of-flower-mound-teen-friend-following-beating-and-fatal-car-wreck.html/), by Karen Robinson-Jacobs, The Dallas Morning News, July 30, 2014].
These incidents cut to the core of McDonald’s corporate culture. Once seen as the all-American corporation, “McDonald’s” is now shorthand for a globalist mass culture that provides cheap, unhealthy food to lower-class people. McDonald’s is, quite literally, prolefeed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prolefeed). Part of this image was a deliberate choice by the corporation.
It didn’t have to be this way. When McDonald’s aggressively expanded its McCafé line of coffee drinks in the United States in 2009, it was seen as a move to compete with Starbucks (http://www.vdare.com/?s=Starbucks&submit=Search). Indeed, Forbes Magazine called it simply the latest successful tactic by a corporation long defined by its ability to sell a “lifestyle,” from the “American Way of Life” envied by foreigners in poorer countries to the “Fast and Convenient” approach young professionals wanted [Starbucks and McDonald’s Winning Strategy (http://www.forbes.com/sites/panosmourdoukoutas/2013/04/25/starbucks-and-mcdonalds-winning-strategy/), by Panos Mourdoukoutas, April 25, 2013].
But McDonald’s also aggressively courted a reputation as a “diverse” company—most notably through its 365 Black (http://www.vdare.com/articles/abolishing-america-contd-feds-finance-racial-brainwashing-in-schools) campaign. 365 Black was an attempt by McDonald’s to show it was “deeply rooted in the community” by promoting black culture (http://www.vdare.com/articles/abolishing-america-contd-feds-finance-racial-brainwashing-in-schools) and offering awards, scholarships, and other benefits to African-Americans. Of course, this didn’t stop the campaign itself from being called racist, nor from discouraging lawsuits from customers who think the company is racist (http://www.vdare.com/posts/napkin-lawsuit-mcdonalds-experiences-diversity-they-re-not-lovin-it) [The confusing case of McDonald’s 365black.com (http://digiday.com/brands/mcdonalds-dedicated-site-black-community/), by Saya Weissman, Digiday, March 6, 2014].

More importantly, McDonalds defined “diversity” as a way to keep the company profitable. It boasted that “73 percent of McDonald’s total workforce” is composed of women and “people of color,” as well as 43 percent of all franchise staff and 55 percent of suppliers [McDonald’s Makes Diversity About the Bottom Line (http://www.forbes.com/sites/csr/2010/09/08/mcdonalds-makes-diversity-about-the-bottom-line/), by Aman Singh, Forbes Magazine, September 8, 2010]. In 2012, McDonald’s, with much fanfare, became one of the few Fortune 500 companies with a black CEO, Don Thompson. McDonald’s even has a “Chief Diversity Officer,” one Patricia Sowell Harris, (http://www.blackenterprise.com/career/7-diversity-professionals-who-are-changing-the-game/2/)hawking a jargon-heavy book entitled None of Us is As Good as All of Us: How McDonald’s Prospers by Embracing Inclusion and Diversity.
Yet none of this actually helped the company make money. Thompson’s tenure, characterized by what the financial press delicately called “challenges,” came to a disappointing end after McDonald’s reported five consecutive quarters of declining sales [McDonald’s CEO exist erodes diversity among Fortune 500 execs (http://fortune.com/2015/01/29/mcdonalds-ceo-exit-lessens-diversity/), by John Kell, Forbes, January 29, 2015]. The new CEO admits the company has lost control of its brand [7 mistakes that led to McDonald’s downfall (http://www.businessinsider.com/heres-where-mcdonalds-went-wrong-2015-5), by Hayley Peterson, Business Insider, May 4, 2015].
Most damningly, McDonald’s is confronting reports of declining customer service and even hostility directed towards customers from its non-white workforce [McDonald’s Tackles Repair of ‘Broken’ Service (http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324010704578414901710175648?mg=ren o64-wsj), by Julie Jargon, Wall Street Journal, April 10, 2013]. One of the more recent examples of vibrant cultural displays took place in Chicago: a McDonald’s employee attacked a customer and ruptured his eyeball after an argument at the register [Prosecutors: McDonald’s employee attacks customer, damaging man’s eye (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-mcdonalds-assault-charges-met-0316-20150315-story.html), by Geoff Ziezulewicz, Chicago Tribune, March 15, 2015].
Is there any good news for the Golden Arches? Actually, there is. Earnings overseas are powering what growth the company is enjoying, driven by healthier food and more customization options for customers [Where McDonald’s Can Look to For Signs of Hope (http://www.thestreet.com/story/13177853/1/where-mcdonalds-can-look-to-for-signs-of-hope.html), by Brian Sozzi, The Street, June 8, 2015]. As executives recognize this, the new corporate strategy centers on providing higher quality food—and, presumably, a higher quality of customer [McDonald’s Sales Top Estimates After Europe Outperforms U.S (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-08/mcdonald-s-global-sales-top-estimates-as-new-ceo-seeks-comeback)., by Craig Giammona, Bloomberg, June 8, 2015]. Even the Hamburglar looks like (http://i2.cdn.turner.com/money/dam/assets/150506164132-mcdonalds-hamburglar-780x439.jpg) a hipster now.
But this strategy is irreconcilable with 365 Black. And whatever its gains abroad, McDonald’s is increasingly seen as a “black” restaurant in the Land of the Free.
And once a company (http://www.vdare.com/articles/just-do-it-what-the-nike-riots-tell-us), like a neighborhood (http://www.vdare.com/articles/the-ferguson-riots-par-for-the-course-in-the-black-community), goes “black,” it’s hard to see how it can come back.
In a culture defined by hypocrisy, McDonald’s forget the most important lesson successful white Americans need to know: Everyone says they love diversity —but only so they can make enough not to have to live with it.

they do have a point in that diversity article, even here where there are only like 3 or 4 mcdonalds standing alone outside a mall.
they always try to place them directly on the tracks. "the tracks" as meant to catch both sides of it. Borders between poorer sections and more upscale sections of town.

I avoid McFuggalds like the plague. And when I go into a place that serves food and see a majority of negro workers, I turn around and leave. They earned a reputation of filthy savages. I don't need to eat at any of those places. I won't even stop in an area overrun by them.
