Calls for UK electoral reform rise after vote
Conservatives get clear majority with only 37 percent of the vote while UKIP’s 13% gets party just one seat
The shock elections in Great Britain that gave Prime Minister David Cameron and the Conservatives an unexpected majority in Parliament have sparked fresh questions about the way that votes are counted and seats allocated after parties that increased their share of the total vote came away with paltry results.
A petition launched after the elections calling on the next parliament to consider a switch to proportional representation away from first-past-the-post voting had received more than 96,000 votes by last night.
