According to a Texas law, the sale of food that requires temperature control to prevent spoiling is illegal without a permit. “It’s because of the bacteria that can grow in the lemonade,”

Thank Christ for bureaucrats who protect us from bacteria in lemonade.

What those fucking idiots don't understand is that pathogenic bacteria don't grow well in a liquid with that low pH. If their concerns were legit, all the customers that ever bought kombucha here would be dead.

Morons.

Since when has having two brain cells to rub together to form a thought been a requirement in any Bureaucracy?

On a national level is one thing, but in a tiny town is a whole different thing. Overton is small and everyone knows everyone else, and this in the long run will not pass without some payback.

Not sure when their next election cycle starts, but I am dam sure this cruelty to young little girl entrepreneurs, will not be forgotten !

One thing I am now sure of is these little girls are going to make a killing getting the cash for their fathers gift, people are going to flock to their defense and throw money at the kids, because of the publicity, and idiotic local gov actions. The longer this goes on the more egg in the city's face on a national and local level.

Mark my words it will come to pass.

Today
http://tftppull.freethoughtllc.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/cunt-lemonade-cop-300x236.jpg Deploying dozens of police officers to shut down a lemonade stand is laughable. But it is also Orwellian. Obviously these people were conducting their lemonade stand as an act of civil disobedience, but that does not justify the police action. Has the state gotten so large that it must control all forms of human exchange no matter how small? What’s next, will we have to file for a permit to have children? Or request a permit to even seek out a spouse?
All empires reach the inevitable point of a government so large and corrupt that all human interaction must be exploited by the state. The Leviathan must be fed, and it is at the expense of the ones that it claims to serve. Luckily we live in the age of the internet. Individuals are educating themselves to the unjust system that is being built around us and resisting it, peacefully. If you want an over-regulated, crony system of special interest pandering, under the table deals, and a violent police state, please, remain apathetic and dismissive to the signs of autocracy. But, if you see the machine for what it is, a gang of murderous thieves imposing their will through the barrel of a gun, it is your duty to disobey.
People like Rosa Parks, Henry David Thoreau, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, John Locke, and Mahatma Gandhi, all disobeyed, they did it peacefully, and their actions changed the world for the better. Civil disobedience is a powerful statement that is hard to ignore. So grow that front yard garden, start that lemonade stand, and remember, that good people disobey bad laws.

Are you guys sure this shit is REAL?

This story gets trotted out EVERY year in some form or fashion. Its probably used as a barometer to check how the public's normalisation to the police state is coming along.

"less outrage from our faux story this year, things are coming along nicely"

Oh yes it is very real !

The town is just south of me I can drive there in abt 25 minutes or so depending !

The kids were raising mony for a father's day gift, to go to a local water park! The girls are going to give lemonade away free this weekend and accept donations!

That is a end run around the law! ;)

Even better is the manager at the water park just said in the local TV news that he is giving the family free tickets good for the weekend !

More than one way to skin a snake !

Nope, not just told, I took a drive yesterday, just for a grin and checked the area out, the fallout still exists, now signs saying free lemonade and popcorn Saturday, donations will be accepted.

But one can believe what ever they want too, despite eyewitness.

I plan to take a cruse again this Saturday to get myself some of that lemonade and popcorn and leave a donation !

I do admire their spunk and spit the law in the eye determination.

OK, so maybe this one is legit. But the story does seem to occur with monotonous regularity which makes me suspicious of the whole affair.

Well it seems that every year a new crop of kids sprout up, along with clueless parent's that do give it a go !

How does the permit prevent spoiling? Does the state take responsibility now since you have a permit? Are they liable for anything? Say they come to inspect today and tomorrow someone gets sick, are they responsible since they issued and allowed the permit? I have never heard of any state agency taking responsibility for anything.

When the law is out of control and rogue the only way forward is lawful rebellion.

Sure there are ways around it, but giving away lemonade for free and getting a donation from some, is very different from selling lemonade. One is welfare the other is entrepreneurship, marketing, price discovery, the lessons learned will be very different... But maybe that is the idea...

Went down and got my lemonade, made my donation. Good crowd, donation jar overflowing! People from out of state were showing up thanks to the news coverage!

Plus the girls have learned some lessons, and I believe before the fat lady sings, the state law will be changed!

Lesson's on how to overcome adversity are always good for both the young and older to learn or relearn!

Dam popcorn ran out before I got there ! :(

I actually think I am partially immune to it. In boot camp they locked us in a room and dropped a thing of tear gas while we were wearing gas mask. Next they had us go row by row lift our gas mask breath in and recite our division number. Guys next to me were vomiting, snot pouring out of their nose, coughing, gagging, all I had was watery eyes.
