Variations of AR-15 - 5.56, 300 BLK, 7.62x39, 6.8 Rem, 6.5 Gren, .50 Beowold, 458 Socom

... actually I just wanted a complete list in one place. Examples are drawn from vendors I'm familiar with -
Hardened Arms (5.56, 300 BLK, 7.62 x 39)
Bison Armory (6.8)
Alexander Arms (6.5 Gren, .50 Beo)
458 Socom (added to list for completeness, similar to .50 Beo, 3x as expensive for ammo)

6 mm AR + Robert Whitley variants

For starters, this is a photo of one of the best shooting set-ups I've seen. Assembled by Robert Whitley, a gun designer in Pennsylvania who has created several variants of the AR-15 himself. The rifle in the set-up is a 6 mm AR. The reason I put the photo up - I like it + I think it shows an optimal front+rear rest set-up.

5.56
For the 5.56, personally I like Hardened Arms. I just got one of these uppers last week -

7.62x39
They are not known for accuracy, but I think that's because of the variation in the (cheap) steel-case ammo that is very popular for the 7.62 x 39.

300 BLK
Looks a bit like a 7.62 x 39 that went on a diet.

6.8 Rem
Ammo is a little more expensive. BUT it inspired what I think is the most beautiful barrel on the planet, Bison's 6.8 -

I like the 6.8 because it looks like what it is - a blast chamber. It looks like it could handle custom re-loads where someone boosts the powder load 10% "just to see what would happen."

6.5 Grendel
Got to run, maybe a link for now -

50 Beowolf
More Alex. Arms tech. Instead of 30 or 25 bullets, these magazines fit a maximum of 7. Same foot-pounds as a 30-06, crammed into an AR.

458 Socom - found this in poking around.

Anyway, I just wanted to START the list.

With gunsmiths like Robert Whitley around, the list goes into the double-digits (6 mm AR, 22 Beast, etc.).
