I didn't know you guys had such a thing.
from wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System
Who must register Under current law, all male U.S. citizens are required to register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. In addition, non-U.S.-citizen males between the ages of 18 and 25 (inclusive) living in the United States must register. This includes permanent residents (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_residence_%28United_States%29) (holders of Green Cards), refugees (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refugee), asylees (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asylum_seeker), and illegal immigrants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_immigration_to_the_United_States).[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-must-2) Foreign males lawfully present in the United States who are non-immigrants, such as international students (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_student), visitors (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B_visa), and diplomats, are not required to register.[2] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-must-2) Failure to register as required is grounds for denying a petition for U.S. citizenship. Currently, citizens who are 17 and 3 months old can pre-register so when they turn 18 their information will automatically be added into the system.
In the current registration system, a man cannot indicate that he is a conscientious objector (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscientious_objector) (CO) to war when registering, but he can make such a claim when being drafted. Some men choose to write on the registration card "I am a conscientious objector to war" to document their conviction, even though the government will not have such a classification until there is a draft.[20] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-20) A number of private organizations have programs for conscientious objectors to file a written record stating their beliefs.[21] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-21)[22] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-22)[23] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-23)[24] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-24)[25] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-25)
In 1987, Congress ordered the Selective Service System to put in place a system capable of drafting "persons qualified for practice or employment in a health care occupation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_provider)" in case such a special-skills draft should be ordered by Congress. In response, Selective Service published plans for the "Health Care Personnel Delivery System" (HCPDS) in 1989, and has had them ready ever since. The concept underwent a preliminary field exercise in Fiscal Year 1998, followed by a more extensive nationwide readiness exercise in Fiscal Year 1999.[26] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-26) The HCPDS plans include women and men age 20–54 in 57 job categories.[27]
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-27)Females as well as female-to-male transgender individuals who identify as male or have had sexual reassignment surgery are not required to register.[28] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-28)
There is no consistent policy as to whether registration is allowed when not required. Failure to register can cause problems such as denial of Pell Grants (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pell_Grant), even when registration is not allowed.[29] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-29)
Until their 26th birthday, registered males must notify Selective Service within 10 days of any changes to information regarding his status, such as name, current mailing address (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mailing_address), permanent residence address, and "all information concerning his status ... which the classifying authority mails him a request therefor."[4] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-ack-4)[30] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-30)
Failure to register
In 1980, men who knew they were required to register and did not do so could face up to five years in jail or a fine up to $50,000 if convicted. The potential fine was later increased to $250,000. Despite these possible penalties, government records indicate that from 1980 through 1986 there were only 20 indictments, of which 19 were instigated in part by self-publicized and self-reported non-registration.[31] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selective_Service_System#cite_note-31)
As one of the elements of the offense, the government must prove that a violation of the Military Selective Service Act was knowing and willful. This is almost impossible unless the prospective defendant has publicly stated that he knew he was required to register or report for induction, or unless he has been visited by the FBI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FBI), personally served with notice to register or report for induction, and given another chance to comply. The last prosecution for non-registration was in January 1986, after which many believed the government declined to continue enforcing that law when it became apparent that the trials were themselves causing a decline in registration[citation needed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]. Routine checks requiring identification virtually never include a request for draft card.

I assume your son just turned 18 or something? Did he apply for Financial Aid for college?
If I recall correctly, no one has been prosecuted for failure to register since the early 80s, so you have very little to worry about on that front. You would be ineligible for federal financial aid, but there are organizations who provide scholarships to students who are ineligible for financial aid for that reason. If you were my son/brother/friend I'd recommend *cough burn it cough* to do whatever your conscience tells you and not worry too much about the slim chance of consequences.

Palani should chime in here. I believe if you were questioned, anytime in the future, for not having registered, you could just claim ignorance to the law. Like it says in the reading above, "As one of the elements of the offense, the government must prove that a violation of the Military Selective Service Act was knowing and willful. This is almost impossible unless the prospective defendant has publicly stated that he knew he was required to register or report for induction, or unless he has been visited by the FBI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FBI), personally served with notice to register or report for induction, and given another chance to comply."
you can:
A. keep quiet about it, go on about your business.
B. register
If confronted claim ignorance. No letter was received, nobody told you to register.

How many times have I told you theres a difference between "The People" and "US citizens". The courts have ruled many times through out the last 130 years what the differences are between the two.

Every male 18 year old male gets it on their 18th birthday if I'm not mistaken.
I think I signed it but wrote "I'm a conscientious objector to war" on it or something. The 2nd Iraq War was going on then. I was a Socialist Cuck back then mind you.
All males residing in the United States are required to register for the draft during a 60 day period that begins 30 days before their 18th birthday. Some males may feel conscientiously opposed to cooperating with draft registration.
If you are a conscientious objector whose conscience allows you to register you should go to the post office and fill out the registration card. Write somewhere on the face of the card, between the lines or above your signature, "I'm opposed to participation in war in any form because of my ethical, moral, or religious beliefs," or words to that effect. You should make a photocopy of the card before surrendering it to the postal clerk. This cannot be done if you register electronically, so we obviously suggest you register by mail! In the event you are only able to register online or were registered by the Department of Motor Vehicles when you applied for a drivers license you will still have the opportunity to note you are a conscientious objector on Form 3B (read paragraph below).

Selective service is the quid pro quo for free home delivery of mail. If you son received the letter using a benefit such as this then he honorably should give them what they request. If he chooses to not use the benefit of home delivery he is certainly free to use the General Post office but he will have to pick it up periodically at the post office. Postmasters do not like general delivery. They have to do something with the mail after 30 days and this generally speaking includes placing a notice in the paper. If he goes this route be prepared for some postmaster to tell him that general delivery is a benefit for 30 days only. I think they are referring to this 30 day holding period and that is reset for each item of mail. They make it sound like after 30 days the benefit expires as if it were attached to your body.
The selective service - free home deliver of mail connection was established by Lincoln to obtain enough canon fodder to fuel the (un)civil war.

SHOW ME WHERE there is a provision in the English language for the full capitalization of proper nouns.
You can't BECAUSE THERE IS NONE.
The full capitalization of a name establishes 'a conspicuous term or clause' under the UCC.

English grammar has no bearing on the law other than grammar itself.
Ok....since you bring it up....show where in the UCC that
full capitalization of a name establishes 'a conspicuous term or clause'
Until then your premise is frivolous and has no merit or foundation within the law.

More lies from Palani...heres the real history of the Selective Service
[QUOTE]Due to very slow enlistment following the U.S. declaration of war against Germany on April 6, the Selective Service Act of 1917 (40 Stat. 76) was passed by the 65th United States Congress on May 18, 1917 creating the Selective Service System to raise an army to fight in Europe.[8] The Act gave the President the power to conscript men for military service. All males aged 21 to 30 were required to register for military service for a service period of 12 months. As of mid-November 1917, all registrants were placed in one of five new classifications. Men in Class I were the first to be drafted, and men in lower classifications were deferred. Dependency deferments for registrants who were fathers or husbands were especially widespread.[9] The age limit was later raised in August 1918 to a maximum age of 45. The military draft was discontinued in 1920.

Selective Service is not a benefit...its a result of a benefit
It benefits SOMEONE. Now who do you suppose that might be?

show where in the UCC that full capitalization of a name establishes 'a conspicuous term or clause'
Black's Law Dictionary 5th Edition is where the definition for 'conspicuous term or clause' can be found, to wit: "A clause or term is conspicuous when it is so written that a reasonable person against whom it is to operate ought to have noticed it. A clause or term is conspicuous when it is written in boldface, italics, underlined, in contrasting colors, or typed in all capital letters." (Surely some of you have wondered why some (commercial) agreements are written in hard to read ALL CAPITAL LETTERS.)
Donald the Headless Chicken it's certainly your choice to remain completely clueless, however for those who are intent on doing their own due diligence when we lost our money (gold and silver coin) we lost our law (the common law aka "the perfect law of liberty", see James 1:25). Instead of PAYING debt AT LAW with gold and silver coin we've been reduced to discharging debt with limited liability (it's IMPOSSIBLE(!) to PAY a debt with a debt, only the insane think otherwise). To PAY a debt means to extinguish a debt.
This new means of discharging debt with limited liability needed a new form of law hence the Uniform Commercial Code was created - a COLORABLE system of law for those using COLORABLE money.

Probably a dumb thought, but here it goes.
What if Cebu42 Junior wants child, 1st time home buyer, or other federal tax credits in the future? Wouldn't those count as benefits? If the feds threaten the lack of access to federal student loans, wouldn't tax credits be a similar hanging fruit?

Once Junior has achieved his majority he is deemed to have the capacity to make his own way in the world. K thru 12th grade insures he follows the pack.
I thought it was evident that a junior of Cebu wouldn't follow any pack.

Here is Chicago State University on financial aid... no big deal.
Selective Service
MALES, in order to be eligible to receive financial aid funds, generally must be in compliance with the Selective Service System policies by registering before their 26th birthday. If you you are unsure as to whether or not you are in compliance, or if you have already filed a FAFSA and have been notified by the U.S. Department of Education or Chicago State University that there is a question as to your compliance, please visit the Selective Service System (http://www.sss.gov) web site,
From the web site you will be able to download proof of registration, if you are registered, and submit a copy to our office so that we might amend your FAFSA to show your registered status.
If you are a 18 to 25 year old male you must resister. You may do so on-line through the Selective Service System (http://www.sss.gov/) web site After you have registered you may download proof of registration and submit a copy to our office so that we might amend your FAFSA to show your registered status.
If you were required to register, but failed to do so before your 26th birthday, you must submit an explanation to the Selective Service System (you will find their address and telephone number on the Selective Service System (http://www.sss.gov/) web site) as to why you failed to comply with this Federal Law. Selective Service will respond in writing. Bring a copy of this written response to our office as soon as you receive it and speak to a Financial Aid Advisor.

To refuse any offer is to take the path of dishonor. This doesn't mean you have to accept any and all offers sent your way.
"Tell you what, guys. If in the next 90 days Congress formally declares war upon any national enemy of the United States or any one of them I am willing to enroll my NAME with selective service."
Now that counteroffer would appear to be fairly safe without falling into dishonor.
Glass

yes, condition acceptance creates counter offer. Previous offer is now void. Next: either counter counter offer or accept. Acceptance by communication, action, acquiescence or dishonor (leads to enforcement).
Counter counter offer maybe 2nd offer of 1st offer, but is usually a higher offer. Raise the stakes.
Poker pressure. Do you; see the bluff, Raise them or fold?

Do you; see the bluff, Raise them or fold?
The letter raises the stakes when they talk criminal prosecution and jail time. Yet if you don't respond appropriately every little benefit that comes your way (including incarceration) is part of the standard package deal. And it becomes your choice to agree to these conditions. Silence is not an option. It is an agreement.
The mail connection to selective service is valid though. How did the notice get delivered? Pretty obviously ... at home.

Silence is not an option. It is an agreement.
acquiescence.
Post. Yes I agree. The zips are designated federal zones. I noticed that the SSS was an independent operation. What exactly is independence in that context? Is it Government or is it a private operation.
I haven't read the code but I'd be interested to see if there are any outs. Being in another jurisdiction, for instance. Dave's not here man
The critical thing is time. These things have to be responded to in 72 hours. Even an RTS?

Truely incredible ignorance.......three conspiracy theories all wrapped up in one for a no answer answer.......bravo!
Selective Service does not have any conspicious term or clause in it.
Its a result of being a "US citizen"....you sign under penalty of perjury of being one of these "US citizens" when you sign up for Social Security.
You cant sign up for anythi ng the government offers until you disclose a ssn on the government benefit....or ask the government for permission.
Its never occured to you why you must sign under penalty of perjury when you are an American.
There many court cites explaining all this but you fools dont listen but rather believe lies, tories and fairy tales that stroke your ego which tricks you into thinking your smart and intelligent....when its the exact opposite.
Your ignorant!
Palani has done so much damage to this forum its a wonder how any of you put your underwear on correctly.

These things have to be responded to in 72 hours. Even an RTS?
Not at all. Contracts are flexible and subject to be 're-negotiated'. If the 72 hours bothers you just use the same date that is on the letter and put below the date NUNC PRO TUNC. You are presumed to have received the letter the instant it was received and that is not realistic.
Heck, you might even date your letter the day BEFORE they mailed theirs (on the basis of NUNC PRO TUNC) and make it appear that THEY are responding to YOU!!!!

Put the least amount of info on it.
Sign it with a squiggly line not your real sig.
This is what was decided.
I also wondered about sending it back without a sig like we missed that part. They already know who, what, where, why and how, to ignore might not be the best idea. I still don't know the purpose of this notice.

Think about it. They use somewhat dirty tricks to entangle you in their web. But then anything they do you can do as well and if you are even a little creative you might even come out ahead or at least have a little fun trying.

Your kid kid could sign it "Joe Shit the Ragman".....and they'd accept it as being his sig.
I personally view the law as discriminatory on a sexual basis. http://ncfm.org/2014/11/action/ncfm-sues-selective-service-for-requiring-only-men-to-register-for-the-draft/

lulz
I just looked up lulz...
Lulz is the one good reason to do anything, from trolling to rape. After every action taken, you must make the epilogic dubious disclaimer: "I did it for the lulz".
