Fat ass dog went crazy, barking as if the devil was trying to get to him......in the distance something yellow going by....it killed a baby goat next door but didn't eat it......owner ate goat, only had a broken neck.

I have to go to my water source at the creek, about a mile away.....will be sure to carry my gun.

Once I was deer hunting horseback in the Toiyabe Mountains in Nevada. I saw lion tracks where he had followed a party of Indians who had hunted there a week earlier. I rode up the canyon to a saddle that crossed over into Reese River. When I got to the bottom near the river I found a cow the lion had killed and partially eaten covered with brush. I then rode up to the summit where I could see our camp. I was sitting there on the horse surveying the countryside, when I turned and looked up the mountain a little behind me. There crouched down on a big flat rock was the lion watching me. When I started to pull my rifle from the scabbard the lion took off like he was shot out of a gun.

That is the only time I have known a lion to kill a cow. But they do kill a lot of horses.

Another time I was riding my motorcycle to Virginia City when I saw a mountain lion coming down the slope toward me. He jumped off the bank into the highway about 100 yards in front of me, then jumped the guard rail on the otherside of the road and wandered down the canyon disapearing in the trees.

A few years ago I was hiking on the Sam Merrill Trail and at a sharp turn I heard an animal start to race up the cliff in front of me in the chaparral. I was about 15 ft away and walking toward it. Then the animal slipped back down to the trail and I saw it was a medium sized mountain lion. (pluck me) Now about 10 ft in front of me. He growled because he slipped back down, then raced back up the side of the mountain. I purposely didn't make a sound because I thought, if I scream or yell, he' is going to know I am not a deep voiced predator. I did try to make more noise with my steps, pretending to be a beast grovelling about.

Scared the bejesus out of me. Reminded me that I almost stepped on a freakin monster sized black diamond rattler once too, same trail.

Mountain Lion Attacks 6-Year-Old Boy & Nearly Drags Him Away From Family (http://thestir.cafemom.com/breaking/176923/mountain_lion_attacks_boy)

While hiking at the Piccchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve with his parents, two more parents, and a group of kids -- 10 people in total -- a 6-year-old boy was reportedly attacked and nearly dragged away by a mountain lion (http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/california-boy-recovers-mountain-lion-attack-25340530) that appeared out of nowhere.

The boy's dad told police his son was walking about 10 feet ahead of the group when the deadly animal suddenly "came out of nowhere" and attacked him. Lt. Paul Foy of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife says he was shocked to learn that the predator targeted a person who was with so many other people, but that it was likely he chose the boy the way he would have any other prey: the child was the smallest and weakest member of the group and the mountain lion pursued what he assumed was a sure thing.

If you just got chills up your spine and wondered what on Earth you would do if this happened to your little one, the good news is that the boy's dad and another man were able to do something that saved this child's life. Foy says they began shouting and acting aggressively toward the lion, which actually scared him, if you can believe it.

Potential tragedies like this could be avoided if the potential victim were carrying their 7th Trump Squeeze Toy/Mountain Lion Repellent Tool by Ximmco Industries. One squeeze emits a bewildering, non-sensical wail/shriek that is sure to repel any attacking mountain lion. Works great to annoy rational, critical thinking humans as well. I think Ximmy may have pictures of this item and possibly additional info she could post.

Dog had no chance it was tied up and that should be punishable by hanging, only ignorant red neck muther fuckers ty up their dogs. Dobermans have a better chance when they can move, they are not powerful dogs. wonder how hurt this one was.

I'd rather see the lion shread the owner that tied up that dog, while the dog is feet away unable to help.

A couple years back my little Aussie/Heeler dog came running towards me at full speed. I thought he was chasing a squirrel at first but there was no squirrel. I was about 50 yards from my cabin spraying weeds with a 2 gallon stainless steel sprayer. I commenced to wail on the tank with the wand when the lion got within 10 yards of me which made him stop and start "fly fishing" with his tail as they do. Then it dawned on me (so much for quick thinking) that I had a 44 special snubby in my back pocket so I drew it. By then he was in the brush and all I saw was glimpses of him which I shot at but missed.

My dad told a story about when he was working his way through college during the depression. He would go to school one year, then work for a year to pay the nexts year's expenses. One of the things he did to earn money was to snake firewood out of the mountains with a team of horses. He said one evening in the fall it had snowed lightly. He had the team tied up at the edge of his camp. It was just getting dark and he had gotten a fire burning. Dad said he was sitting close to the fire when the horses became extremely restless. He said the hair on his dogs back stood straight up and the dog got between him and the fire and refused to move. Dad didn't know for sure what was bothering the horses and his dog, but the next morning in the daylight there were lion tracks in the new snow. My dad thought the fire was what kept the lion form coming into his camp and attacking the horses or the dog.

A month ago I had prowlers in my back yard after midnight. I called the sheriff and a few days later that caught them (teenagers looking for something to pick up and buy dope with). Still, I had a hard time sleeping after that, and I was getting up in the wee hours looking out my windows.

Four nights ago, I looked out and saw a skunk snooping around the grass in my yard. He looked calm and undisturbed, diligently poking his nose down in the grass. His tail was relaxed. I figured there must be NO HUMANS anywhere around, or he'd know it right away. I've seen him every night since then, and, I'm starting to finally sleep soundly again.

I love skunks.

(If I knew what they eat, I'd put some of it out for him - just being hospitable for a much welcomed nocturnal visitor)

Some moron tied out his dog which put the poor dog at a severe disadvantage (not saying a domesticated dog would be any match for a mountain lion, but at least it could maneuver if it weren't tied out).

My dog and I work as a team, so not really a good idea for any varmint to attack us (at least a very bad idea for the varmint).

It's been a few years ago but a lion got in the corral with my brothers horses one night. There were half a dozen full sized horses and a shetland pony that belonged to his kids.
The horses tore down the board corral and went through two barbed wire fences. The pony had four evenly spaced scratches starting on his chest and going up and over his back. He had other gouges and scratches in other places but the lion didn't get him. The night before the lion had run my neighbors horses through the fence too.

it's interesting what attracts the wild critters.

about a week ago i heard a sound like a dog very persistently chasing its metal water dish around the sidewalk.

turns out it was a possum, doing my dishwashing for me. it liked the metal bowl i put smoothie leftovers in. basically just sugar water, but it really liked it. there was no water in the bowl, the possum just liked the taste i guess.

when i opened the door, it just stared at me. no fear at all. i was surprised by the size of the head, like a pit bull.

it made a move like it wanted to come indoors. i made another move, like no, let's wait on that.

i also started a bigger water trough for the wild animals.

Just this past two weeks I had to trap and dispense of 3 raccoons. Buggers got 2 hens. Made a bloody mess of my girls.
I'd become complacent and lax about latching them up at night in the coop. My bad.

i was trying to figure out how much i needed to worry about raccoons. i'm on the edge of BLM forest.

i made a chicken coop to put on the roof, so that the birds can protect themselves. time will tell how the 4 year old hen will react.

the 2 new chicks (black sex-link, about 4 weeks old) are VERY quick. i couldn't catch them when they're in 'that mood', not without hurting them. but that's good. they are also flying.

this is the part where i borrow a ladder so i can carry the pieces of the coop up to the roof & re-assemble it & tie it down for high winds.

then comes the challenge - how do you convince a chicken that flying up to roof is a good idea ? i'm thinking, their favorite food.
