Was his name and D.L.# engraved on his piece?

Guess he were too fat from rib dinners to make a run for it first...

it looks straight forward. Don't know why he thought that was a good idea. Clearly had not much practice or much of a plan. I'm wondering if his gun was even in battery. The female officer does a good effort to disrupt his draw and he didn't even get a shot off.

I think the officers were fairly accurate with their shots. Can't be sure, wasn't there. They seemed quite well trained in firearms use. Maybe a few adrenalin shots.

I saw LE Gear was selling body cameras for about $300. If same camera, does a good job. Very good audio.

Family members reveal that James D. Bushey, who was shot at Applebee's restaurant late Sunday night, was a man in recovery.

James D. Bushey, 47, of Elkhart, went into the restaurant after shoplifting alcohol from Walmart Sunday evening. After Palestine Police officers removed him from his hiding place, the restroom inside the establishment, he pulled out a pistol. It was later discovered that the pistol was a BB gun. An officer attempted to get the weapon away from Bushey, but the man broke free from the officer and pointed the weapon at the officers. The two officers shot Bushey multiple times trying to eliminate the threat of a weapon.

Tuesday, family members recalled a man who was trying to rebuild his life.

James Bushey moved to Palestine six months ago after going through a divorce and several life changing events where he lost everything, according to his brother Jeff Bushey. The brother said he was allowing James a place to stay while he recovered from the tragic events.

While staying with his brother, James took a job at a sawmill in Elkhart, and was doing better, according to Jeff However, recent heavy rains caused work at the mill to become slow and James Bushey was laid off. James was looking for a job while trying to transfer his license to Texas. He was prevented of the change due to an unpaid fine, his brother said.

Jeff also mentioned that his brother was attending a new program through ACCESS(Anderson Cherokee Community Enrichment ServiceS) for an alcohol problem. Jeff said his brother was showing progress and was not on any medication while in the program.

“He was just a good guy and down on his luck,” Jeff said. “He would have never done something like this, but he had a lot going through his mind. I guess it messed with his head. I'll never understand why he did it.”

Jeff added that the BB gun used to point at the officers did not come from his house. He said he does not keep guns in his house, but did have a BB pistol which is still put away in a safe place. He said he checked it immediately when he found out what was used at the scene. He also said that his mother lives within walking distance to Wal-Mart, and James D. Bushey would visit often along with other family members.

“The whole family is devastated and we don't know what he was thinking,” Jeff said. “If he was troubled by something, I guess he is at peace now. But, he would never go waving a gun around. It just wasn't his personality. He was a good man. He just made a bad decision.”

Bushey's mother Linda Camardie said she is still trying to “wrap her mind” around what happened on Sunday night in Palestine and why her son had to be shot multiple times by each officer. She stated that she is relying on God through this time as the investigation unfolds about her son.

His mother said that she does not why her son acted the way he did. She said he was a good man and a loving family member.

“You just never get over the whole losing a child puts in your heart,” Camardie solemnly said. “He was a good boy and I don't understand why the officers had to shoot him six times. He wasn't a bad person. He just made a bad decision.”

She rubbed her hands together as she spoke about the memory of her son and how he was a playful guy who liked to mess with people. Camardie said she moved to Palestine from New Hampshire five years ago to be closer to her son Jeff, who moved to the area 14 years ago.

The Palestine Police Department is continuing its investigation and has yet to release any new details on the case.

He appears to have a smirk on his face at 0:14.

Merely pulling a cell phone out of your pocket will result in trigger happy cops shooting you, pulling out what definitely looks like a gun will certainly result in suicide by cop.

By reading the story, that appears to of been what the guy wanted. I don't like cops at all, but in this situation they even attempted to remove the weapon from the guy before he broke free and pointed it at them.

Self defense which any human being has a right too badge or not.

The woman was actually fairly conservative, saving for more bodies to follow.

I counted 12 shots, the article says he was shot 6 times. The woman looks like she might have struck him all 3 times so that means the guy pig got 3 of 9 shots.
