When this was being reported in the media the media presented it as merely the UT System taking physical possession of UT System gold. Now I see it is MUCH MORE than that.

What is the advantage of storing gold there besides perceived safety? I'd rather hold it myself, if I had any that is...

It provides one with the means to actually 'pay' debt (i.e. to extinguish debt) instead of discharging debt with limited liability (where the debt still exists).
