DEVELOPING: Date Set for “Assembly of the States” to Take on the Feds… It’s About Time
For over a year now, there have been calls from around the country for an Article V Convention of the States, for the purpose of proposing Constitutional amendments designed to rein in and limit future actions by the federal government.
Now there are growing calls for a similar, if less formal or binding, “Assembly of the States,” again with the purpose of reining in the out-of-control federal leviathan.
The stated goal of an assembly of the states would be to identify and promote so-called “best practices” and methods for states to reassert their 10th Amendment state’s rights.
The proposed assembly would be located in the state of the legislature that first calls for such an assembly and would be attended by five delegates from each state that chooses to take part.
Though an Assembly of the States would be focused more on state’s rights and the 10th Amendment, they wouldn’t be barred from discussing other potential amendments to the Constitution, and could very well lay the necessary remaining groundwork for an actual Article V Convention of the States.
According to an op-ed for Breitbart, a date has already been set for the proposed Assembly of the States, to take place in May of 2016, right before the conventions for the Republican and Democrat Parties kick off.
Some of the topics to be discussed at the Assembly include, but aren’t limited to:
(1) Which federal grants (presumably almost all) make the most sense for a state to reject and what are the best ways to deal with the real world consequences of those rejections?
(2) What specific actions shall be taken to resist unconstitutional Supreme Court decisions?
(3) What specific actions should be taken to resist egregious and unlawful federal regulations and which regulations are most deserving of resistance?
(4) What practical, free-market health care policies can be introduced at the state level to improve the availability and delivery of health care services to residents of each state, given the federal government’s ever increasing tentacles of control in that sector of the economy?
An Assembly of the States would be a great way for states to reassert their rightful authority over their own affairs and would be a solid step towards an Article V Convention of the States.
Sadly, such action by the collective states has become increasingly necessary, as the federal government continues to overreach their Constitutional authority in a myriad of ways, all of which must be stopped immediately.
