Creator of “Flying Gun” Drone Investigated by FAA (http://www.activistpost.com/2015/07/creator-of-flying-gun-drone.html)
By Joshua Krause (http://www.thedailysheeple.com/creator-of-flying-gun-drone-investigated-by-faa_072015)

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old mechanical engineering student by the name of Austin Haughwout, posted a YouTube video of one of his projects. He managed to mount a semi-automatic pistol to a hobby drone, which he was capable of firing remotely. The brief 14-second video managed to go viral, but not without alarming the authorities (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/jul/21/flying-gun-drone-investigated-faa-after-engineerin/).

This isn’t the first time this has been done, but it has raised the ire of the FAA. They’re not sure if what he created was legal, and they’re currently in the process of searching through what I assume is the vast and arbitrary list of federal laws, to see if he’s done anything illegal. While local authorities don’t believe he violated any of Connecticut’s laws, the FAA thinks it’ll find something at the federal level.

Some drone enthusiasts are obviously concerned, since this could lead to more regulation of their hobby. Attorney and drone advocate, Peter Sachs, told ABC news that “There are countless ways that drones can be useful. Using one as a remote-controlled weapon is not one of them, and I question the judgment of anyone who would attempt to do so.” So far there is no word on whether or not he plans to sue the Defense Department for their fleet of automated war machines (http://www.amazon.com/Wired-War-Robotics-Revolution-Conflict/dp/0143116843?tag=permacultucom-20&linkCode=w13&linkID=&ref_=assoc_res_sw_cr_dka_cra_t0_result_1&ref-refURL=http%3A%2F%2Factivistpost.net%2Fbanners%2Fa mazon.htm) (I kid of course).

it's easy to see where this is going.

2 paths, which meet, and then it gets REALLY interesting -

1. using a digital camera/ scope combination to see the target at 100 yards. or maybe an iPad or iPhone.

for normal 21st century range shooting.

they already have them, i'm sure. i just don't like to pay more than $170 for a scope/ mount combo.

2. attaching the drone (flight) hardware to the gun, and giving real-time control of the trigger to the person flying the gun/ drone.

what i just described is similar to the US Air Force drones.

this strikes me as the kind of weapon that will be a game changer if the US general public ever REALLY starts questioning authority.

Gun drone......................no finger prints
no one identified unless drone pilot is caught

Gun drone......................no finger prints

I can see a real problem with accuracy, as well as with follow-up shots.

A laser aiming device would certainly help, but that wouldn't overcome all the issues with doing that (as a DIY, now with the unlimited budget of the Pentagram that's another story entirely).

Especially if they make them very small.............

I would be tempted to modify the auto flight stability so that it generates a direction bias at the instant the firearm discharges. In that way the drone should already some recoil countering momentum.

Or something with less recoil. Less recoil should result in less backward movement and faster followup fire.

Alternatively a different weapons system altogether would be better. Obviously something recoilless perhaps? Or something that does not have a discharge.

You know, the kind of stuff the military and police departments across America currently have right now. The kind of thing that could be easily built by pretty much anyone these days.
The video went viral and people began freaking out that a citizen could create such a thing. The FAA announced it was “investigating,” although no laws currently exist specifically against this.
Now Haughwout has been arrested and released on a $20,000 bond. The claim is the charges have nothing to do with the actual drone itself, but it goes without saying (but we’ll say it anyway) that had Haughwout never uploaded that video, he wouldn’t have had any interaction with police at all in the first place.
According to Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/police-arrest-us-teen-built-gun-firing-drone-220520292.html):

The charges have nothing to do with the drone, but stem from an incident last Sunday and a physical altercation with officers, the Clinton police department said.
He was arrested on Wednesday evening after being asked to turn himself in on an outstanding warrant.
Police said he refused to submit to arrest and that he hit and kicked at two officers “repeatedly”.
As a result he was charged with two counts of assault and a single count of interfering with an officer.
The arrest warrant also charged Haughwout with interfering with an officer and failure to obey an officer’s signal.
Really? Nothing to do with the drone, huh? Interesting that Yahoo! doesn’t state was the original warrant was for. Would the officers have even gone to this teen’s house had he not uploaded that video?
The bottom line here is, they had to find some reason to come down on the kid because there is no law against his drone gun. The system, apparently, feels threatened. Can’t have the plebs building the technology of the patricians.
As if anyone needs to be intimidated by the State in this case or made an example of anyway. Was this “flying gun” really a new idea singular to this teen? This is the natural evolution of drone technology in a country governed by the military-industrial complex and again, the military already has much worse than this. It’s not like the idea of a drone-controlled gun was a big secret or anything.
The only difference here is, the guy put a video up proving how easily it could be done.
