I believe that cash will be king. Look at Greece: if the bank close or limit your cash than who will give you the CASH for you gold? I understand that PM will make more sense AFTER things return to normal but the next crisis will probably be a great opportunity for TPTB to implement their totalitarian NWO and this will look a lot like COMMUNISM on steroids.

Now do you know what happened to owners of gold or to people that stored food under communism?
Well their property was redistributed (stolen) in the name of equality and the owners were shot and yes the commies did go door to door to search for weapons and other illegal goods.

Both have a place.

As for door to door searches that is something that has to be reconciled to each family in particular The men.

That is moment of truth and for each person it will be different.

Interesting ideas. I recall in 2008, the Greeks were buying gold Sovereigns as fast as they could to maintain the value of their cash and to protect it from the banks. Ther eis also barter. You will need some cash for a lot of official bills (utilities, taxes, etc.), but for many things you need, silver and gold could be used for bartering. A grey market will appear if needed. An auto junque yard can be a store of value. So can the knowledge that the ditches are full of Jerusalem Artichoke 100% organic since the state sees no need to spray ditches. These are valued at $5 a lb in healthfood stores and I don't doubt I could dig 100 lbs an hour .... and if anyone from the state asks what I am doing .... my answer would be eliminating noxious weeds.

i know a guy with a few hundred tons of steel I-beam's etc. stored outdoors.

i think of his collection as a 'bank'.

Jerusalem Artichokes grow everywhere here, they are not bad but the only good ones are available during late winter, very early spring. Any other times they will just pass through and make some gassy as hell = fart city !

Used to keep an eye out for them when younger when winter camping, great potato sub.

He keeps them outside? How does he protect them from moisture? A bunch of corroded steel won't be worth very much.

On the climate, but also mostly if they still have their mill scale on them, if so they will rust very slowly.

Back in my asme tank building days pressure vessel's outside would not rust except along the weld seams, where the mill scale was removed to have clean metal to weld together so they could pass NDT, x-ray, dye, magnetic or ultrasound.

Besides, away from sea coasts where there is no salt in the air , steel can be stored a very long time outside.

I was thinking about what's hidden under the few hundred tons of steel, such as cash and pm's. Not many folks are going to be able to move that weight. It literally is a bank.
