War is harmful not only to the conquered but to the conqueror.
Society has arisen out of the works of peace; the essence of society is peacemaking.
Peace and not war is the father of all things.
Only economic action has created wealth around us; labor, not the profession of arms, brings happiness.
Peace builds, war destroys.

Hi General Of Darkness. I just finished watching the You Tube video. It did cut out in the beginning and I had to restart it.
Try direct from YouTube :

What I found interesting was that China’s supercomputer was in the area that was destroyed. As Jim Willie stated, this supercomputer was involved with banking, logistics, military, international trade and hacking. If this supercomputer were involved with hacking pentagon, corporate, airline, banking and government secret information and control, it would also become an enormous setback for China’s plans for a gold backed reserve currency.
I saw a video in which Henry Kissinger stated that hacking was an act of war.
I’m not saying that the U.S. was responsible but the timing of the blast was only a couple of days after China had devalued their yuan currency.
I have always felt that it was wise to reserve judgment as “time will tell” but with some of the past events in our own country such as the Kennedy assassination, 9/11 and others, I just don’t know if the truth will ever be known by the populace.
Best wishes,
agnut

I’ve been asking that myself, Gun Driller. I don’t know enough about what it would entail in having a backup for such a huge undertaking as a supercomputer. It could be relatively simple or near impossible. I would guess that with the complexity and size of information that an identical system would be required rather than a hookup between a thousand laptops. Funny but not ha ha funny if you get my drift.
Also, there have been no direct reports as to the damage sustained; it could be little to none or a complete wipeout. Anyone know anything about this ?
Just how crucial was this supercomputer to China’s continuance in commerce and banking ? Are they now blind and uncoordinated or will they recover in a matter of hours, days, weeks ?
We can only watch and wait and speculate. We may know the truth in a few days by how China reacts as to how seriously wounded they are. Like a “mortal head wound”, eh ?
Best wishes,
agnut

in Silicon Valley, the average condo building is full of supercomputers, because geeks tend to
bring their work home with them and have trouble resisting the Call of the Xeon.
(playing a little fast & loose with the def. of a supercomputer, a dual core Xeon may not qualify.)
sounds like it was a KEY supercomputer.
my guess is, in the tech areas, they have hundreds of supercomputers.
not so much in the farming areas :)

Data is data. A SAN storage system could store all of the data that a super computer would need to function. The only thing super about a super computer is its capacity to process data. Storage of data isn't a bid deal for a super computer as SAN storage systems could handle it and when SAN storage is setup, there is usually off site data replication taking place. So whatever data was in that warehouse it most likely survived.
Think about it you spent hundreds of millions of dollars for hardware to process data, that data becomes invaluable and its easy to copy and replicate.
