I just finished reading a great sci-fi book called Equinox (sequel to Containment), where after humans have a large presence on a massive space station, the sun sends out a massive flare, stranding those on the station, who above difficult odds, reproduce and bear children who grow up in zero gravity but have tons of scientific knowledge and technology. After a few generations these humans can no longer survive in earths gravity but have developed tachnology greater than those humans on earth, and christen themselves a new human species, Solaris sapiens, instead of Homo sapiens, and call themselves Solarians. Great sci fi book.
