Queen Margarethe II has called on Muslim migrants to adopt European values.

Queen Margarethe II said it was “not a law of nature” that asylum seekers automatically integrated into society and called on Muslim groups to do more to help new arrivals understand Danish society.
The Queen, who is one of Europe’s most respected and long-serving royals, said politicians needed to “put their foot down” and strictly uphold the country’s principles of democracy and gender equality in her unprecedented rallying cry.

Denmark has taken in just under 15,000 asylum seekers in the last nine months, according to Government statistics, and has reintroduced border controls to stem the flow heading northwards towards neighbouring Sweden.

The arrival of predominantly Muslim refugees has sparked a heated debate about migration in the country, which earlier this year saw a new law passed allowing the authorities to seize migrants’ assets to pay for housing and benefits.

Denmark has taken in around 15,000 migrants in the last nine months.

Some right-wing politicians have linked asylum seekers to the growing threat of Islamic State (ISIS) with one, the deputy leader of the anti-immigration Danish People’s Party, Soeren Espersen, issuing a Donald Trump-style call for a six-year ban on Muslim migrants entering the country.

And now the Nordic country’s Queen has intervened in the national debate with an outspoken rallying call to Muslim migrants to integrate into the country’s free, tolerant society.

She said: “It’s not a law of nature that one becomes Danish by living in Denmark. It doesn’t necessarily happen.

“We thought that these things would take care of themselves. That if you walked through the streets of Copenhagen and drank the municipal water and rode the municipal bus, you’d soon become a Dane.

“It was so obvious to us, and therefore we thought that it must also be obvious for those who settled and lived here. It wasn’t.”

In a book, compiled with the Danish journalist Thomas Larsen, Queen Margarethe said that migrants arriving from south east Asia had “prospered”, but those coming from the Middle East “have had a hard time finding their rhythm in Denmark”.

And she admitted that the sheer scale of the new arrivals seen across Europe over the last 18 months had changed her views of immigration which, as a young woman in the 1960s, she and other Danes saw as “exciting”.

Speaking about the cultural values some migrants bring with them, she said: "We cannot pretend that it wears off by itself. It won't. Many of us thought that people who come to a strange place are a kind of a blotting paper that absorbs everything new.

“The task becomes harder, however, when so many people having various backgrounds and a particular religion arrive at once. They risk isolating themselves regardless of their will.”

And the veteran monarch, who ascended to the throne of Denmark in 1972, offered a scathing verdict of today’s crop of EU politicians who she accused of betraying European values in the name of political correctness.

She said: “If you can’t formulate what you stand for, it is hard to tell others about it. It needs to be worked on and every once in a while you need to put your foot down with somebody and say ‘Hey! That won’t do’.”

Her remarks were extremely outspoken for a royal who, like England’s Queen Elizabeth, has traditionally attempted to remain above the political fray.

But they were welcomed by the Danish Culture Minister Bertel Haarder, who said the Queen was simply voicing the concerns of many ordinary Danes.

He said: "She described precisely the development that many of us have gone through. I remember saying at the beginning of my tenure as Integration Minister that the number of immigrants and refugees did not matter meant so much, as long as they found work.

“It sounded good, but unfortunately it was not true. It is the number that matters.”

And the right-leaning Danish newspaper Berlingske added that whilst some would take offence at the monarch wading into politics, her remarks “show that she has an outstanding talent for being a political temperature gauge”.

Europe has been in the grip of an unprecedented migration crisis, with more than a million migrants arriving on the continent from the Middle East and North Africa in 2015 alone.

Denmark has predominantly acted as a transit point for asylum seekers heading north towards Sweden which, along with Germany, is touted as a promised land with abundant housing and jobs for new arrivals.

A Danish woman who fought for the Kurds in Iraq and Syria against Islamic State (https://www.theguardian.com/world/isis)has been taken into custody in Copenhagen, prompting accusations of hypocrisy over her treatment compared with returning Isis fighters.
Joanna Palani, 23, who fought with both the Kurdish peshmerga in Iraq and the YPG militia in Syria (https://www.theguardian.com/world/syria), faces a potential jail sentence.

A 12-month travel ban was imposed on her to prevent her from travelling back to the conflict in September 2015, but in a closed court hearing last week she admitted travelling as far as Doha, Qatar, on 6 June this year and was taken into custody. She has another hearing on Tuesday.

Her lawyer, Erbil Kaya, noted the irony of seeking to prosecute someone who fought on the same side as Danish troops and other coalition forces while the government seeks to rehabilitate returning Isis fighters.

“It’s a shame. We are the first country in the world to punish a person who has been fighting on the same side as the international coalition. It’s hypocritical to punish her. Why don’t we punish the people who fight for Isis instead of people who are fighting on the same side as Denmark (https://www.theguardian.com/world/denmark)? … I don’t think it makes sense,” Kaya said.

Palani is the first foreign fighter to be jailed under new passport laws and is currently being held in Denmark’s largest prison, Vestre Fængsel in Copenhagen.

The judge agreed to a prosecution request for more time to prepare their case, Kaya said. Time spent in pre-trial detention will be taken off her final sentence, which could be as long as two years, according to Kaya, who is forbidden from reporting the details of the case.

Returning Isis fighters have benefited from the so-called Aarhus model (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/feb/23/home-jihadi-denmark-radical-islamic-extremism-aarhus-model-scandinavia) of reintegration and deradicalisation instead of custodial sentences. Under the Aarhus model, returning fighters are assigned mentors, psychological counselling and are helped to apply for jobs or to resume education.

The passport laws Palani is accused of breaching are part of a number of measures taken by Denmark to attempt to stem the flow of fighters to the Middle East. The country is second only to Belgium in the number of jihadi fighters per head of population in Europe (https://www.theguardian.com/world/europe-news). The law aims to prevent individuals travelling when a journey may involve issues such as national security or “a substantial threat to public order”.

Palani, who has been outspoken in her support for the Kurdish groups she has fought for, is believed to be one of 11 Danes to have restrictions imposed upon them.

Palani is the daughter of Iranian Kurds (https://www.theguardian.com/world/kurds)and was born in a refugee camp in Ramadi, Iraq, in 1993. The family emigrated to Denmark when she was three and she was a student when the Syrian conflict first began. She went to Kurdistan, she says, “to fight for women’s rights, for democracy – for the European values I learned as a Danish girl”.

The Danish security and intelligence service (PET) is reported to have estimated that at least 125 Danes have joined the Syrian conflict, mainly to fight for Isis. Of these, around 62 are believed to have returned to Denmark, which leaves the country with one of the highest rates of returnees in Europe.

As a high-profile Kurdish fighter Palani has become a high-value target for Isis sympathisers, and is subject to vicious trolling as well as online and offline threats. Speaking just before her hearing, Palani criticised the contrast between how she was being treated and how returning Isis fighters were being treated.

“It’s very difficult for me, as there many people who are against me still in Copenhagen – some IS people. It’s hard for me to get a job as PET have been calling employers telling them I am a threat to national security, so it doesn’t seem like anyone is on my side.”

Palani has described fighting with special forces operatives inside Syria. Both the Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga and the Syrian YPJ, the women’s battalion of the YPG that Palani is most associated with, are being supported by international coalition forces, including Danish forces.

The YPG, a dominant partner in the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) currently leading the push towards Raqqa are, however, considered a terrorist group by Turkey. Both the the YPG and the YPJ are linked to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is officially designated as a terrorist organisation in Europe and the US.

The YPJ played a central role in the battle for Kobani, and Palani recalled the two weeks she spent there at the very start of the Isis offensive in 2014 as “the longest of my life”. She described enduring starvation-like conditions as the city was besieged by Isis fighters and supplies were cut, and said she lost “many friends” before being sent away from the front due to injury.

Speaking on her way to her detention she said she would try to plead her case on behalf of those who died fighting Isis. “The YPJ are not terrorists – we are fighting terrorists. To say we are not part of the coalition fighting against Isis is an insult to every YPJ woman who died in Kobani doing exactly that.”

Asylum seekers scam German aid program for millions by applying with ‘up to 12’ fake IDs

A special commission in the northern German city of Braunschweig will investigate over 300 cases of fraud committed by asylum applicants, who gamed the welfare system by using multiple IDs to claim benefits – and that may just be the tip of the iceberg.

The estimated total loss of taxpayer money in the state of Lower Saxony alone has been put at three to five million euros ($3.2-5.3 million), Regional German broadcaster NDR reported.

In the majority of cases, the scheme was employed by Sudanese refugees who were applying for benefits within the social welfare system, the head of the newly established investigative commission, Joern Memenga, said, as cited by Deutsche Welle.’

The rapidly increasing Muslim population of Vienna was dramatically reflected with the news that 25 percent (that is, 400 out of 1,600) of the soldiers who make up Vienna’s elite Guard unit (the Garde) are Muslims.

The Garde is one of Vienna’s oldest units, and is officially tasked with representing the Austrian army at all major events, and stands guard at the presidential residence at the Hofburg palace.

An army spokesman confirmed the huge increase in Muslim soldiers to the Krone newspaper, saying that the main reason for the large increase was because the unit “now only recruits from the Vienna area, where more and more Muslims are living.”

More than six million asylum seekers are waiting to cross into Europe, a leaked intelligence report warns.

There has been a huge increase in the number of migrants hoping to reach EU countries, it says – contradicting claims from Brussels that the situation is under control.

The confidential report, leaked to German newspaper Bild, claims 6.6million migrants are waiting in countries around the Mediterranean sea to cross into Europe, including 2.5million in war-torn North Africa.

This year has already seen record numbers of African migrants making the perilous journey across the Mediterranean, with Italy the frontline of the crisis.

‘A damning report claims that illegal immigration in Britain may be running at 150,000 a year.

It says the true scale of those here unlawfully is being hidden because the Home Office estimates have been held back.

The paper also warns of a possible ‘surge’ once legal migration from the EU is curbed following Brexit.

The most recent official figures show net migration – the difference between those leaving and arriving in the UK lawfully – stands at 273,000.

But the report suggests, when illegal migrants are included, this figure may be much higher. Theresa May has pledged to cut immigration to the tens of thousands by 2022.’

It really is idiotic, these professional rescue vessels are just waiting outside the territorial limits of Libya, to "rescue" the Africans in their unseaworthy vessels. The only effort necessary is for them to get to the territorial limits of Libya, and then they get a ticket to Europe. Stop "rescuing" them and they stop coming, it really is that easy. Or at least take them back to Libya where they came from. Now the message is: "risk going into a dinghy boat the thirty miles to international waters and you get a comfy life in Europe"

LOL no-one in EU wants to take these negroes, but on the other hand they don't want to appear anti-human, so they can't tell the NGO's to stop "rescuing" them, so Italy will issue Schengen visas for them so they can travel anywhere within Europe. Next wave of refugee crisis. Greece will do this too. The last wave stopped the open border policy of EU (within EU that is), since Southern European countries just allowed the refugees across to north where the great welfare benefits are. Now they'll come again with legal schengen visas issued by Italy and Greece, eventually when Sweden and Germany gets to the point when they can't accept anymore (logistics reasons only, preserving culture is not even discussed any longer!). They will then cancel the Schengen Agreement. Without the Schengen Agreement EU is not anymore.

The majority of the money – DKK 24 billion ($3.7 billion) is spent on migrants from MENAPT nations (Middle East and North Africa plus Pakistan and Turkey), who comprise 55 percent of all non-western immigrants.

These migrants cost the state DKK 85,000 ($13,000) per person compared to just 4,000 per person from other non-western countries.

The $4.8 billion has actually decreased compared to previous years thanks to Denmark pursuing a harder line on immigration and attempting to eliminate migrant ghettos.

However, the Danish People’s Party wants to go further by “deporting 70 percent of immigrants by 2030, if they have committed something criminal, haven’t mastered Danish, or have been unemployed for a long time.”

As we previously highlighted (https://summit.news/2019/10/07/new-peer-reviewed-academic-study-finds-diversity-is-not-a-strength/), a study by academics at the University of Copenhagen found that ethnic diversity has a negative impact on communities because it erodes trust.

Seeking to answer whether “continued immigration and corresponding growing ethnic diversity” was having a positive impact on community cohesion, the study found the opposite to be the case.
